So, my family and I filled out the FAFSA and got my Student Aid Report, which listed our Estimated Family Contribution at the top. I called Student Financial Services at Wellesley and they said that that's not necessary the dollar amount that students will be asked to pay. Current students/alums/ED ladies, was your expected family contribution at Wellesley in the same ballpark as your EFC from the FAFSA? It's so nerve-wracking that everything is still up in the air. I can't wait to have an official decision and financial aid award.

My daughter’s EFC from Wellesley for all 4 years was always a little less than double the FAFSA EFC. When she was applying, this was similar to what she was offered by Williams and better than Smith.

The FAFSA only determines your eligibility for federal aid; it does not indicate what your family will actually be required to pay at a certain institution. Wellesley uses its own institutional methodology to determine need and requires not just the FAFSA but the CSS/Profile, which takes into account things that the FAFSA does not (i.e. retirement accounts, real estate equity, income of non-custodial parent etc.)

Have your parents filled out Wellesley’s own Net Price Calculator on their website? That ought to give you a more realistic figure than the FAFSA EFC. Also, I thought the deadline for filing the CSS/Profile and applying for Wellesley financial aid for 2013-14 was Jan. 15, although I could be wrong.

Called SFS today, the girl said that I will basically have to wait until I get my letter, which will likely be next week. The NPC is useful, but my family has extenuating circumstances that aren’t factored in. Thanks everyone!

We found Wellesley FA to be very generous when compared to all the other schools to which our DD was admitted.

Yes! I’ve heard (from alums) and seen (on their site) that financial aid is very, very generous. I have my fingers crossed! It will definitely make or break my ability to attend.

I have found their financial aid to be generous. Things that may factor in their institutional methodology vs the federal methodology include owning a business, and a student with divorced/remarried parents. If you feel the amount they come up with is not reasonable due to extenuating circumstances, you can appeal.

Will financial aid be online today as well?

does anyone know? i’m crossing my fingers that it is.
Also, I just heard from a friend that her sister got a likely and was then waitlisted…I am now freaking out.

It will be! it is going up midnight tonight! so if you’re a west coaster like me then it will be up at nine. Then again, I don’t think I’ll even get in so I suppose I shouldn’t even think about that

Take it one step at a time, but stay positive. It’s not over until it’s over!

fin aid notification box has nothing in it!!! I want to know so badly…I wonder if some of my forms were late?

@lynne–same here, my box is empty! I got all of my forms in, so I’m not really sure what’s going on, gack. I’ll just keep refreshing until the end of time, I suppose…good luck!

Same here… no FA notification yet.

FA office responded to an email that there was a technical issue with posting offers. He said in the email that the information should be posted later this morning.

Thanks for the info, imarealboy. That saves me the trouble of contacting them myself.

Wow. They want me to pay double my EFC. I always thought Wellesley was generous with aid… Hope my other schools don’t do the same…

Oof, that hurts, artandbaseball. I guess it’s hard to predict what CSS Profile schools will do.

I still can’t see any FA on the portal, BTW.

My EFC was pretty small, but hopefully they won’t double it. It turns out I was missing a little piece of documentation However, they said everything should be processed and I should have an admission decision in 1-2 business days.

Has everyone else heard back? I just called them and they said that, for people who had all the right documentation as of two days ago, the decisions should be posted.

Same with you artandbaseball…
