Hey. I was just wondering how generous USC is on financial aid? Would it be reasonable to expect 10k in aid if I'm from an average income earning family?

USC has amazing aid, according to everyone ive talked to. WHat do you think average income is? did you do the financial aid estimate on sig?

I come from a reasonably well-to-do family ($200,000+) a year, so I didn't expect to get anything from USC. I even could not turn in my tax returns since my parents always file an extension.

However, I looked at my financial aid statement one day and found a $4000 "Trojan" scholarship which was quite surprising.

I tried that at WashU-St. Louis and Northwestern and they (probably) laughed at me (silently).

^^Yes, the "ghost" Trojan scholarship has been discussed on several occassions on CC. It's a ploy USC uses so that when they say "x% of our students receive aid," x is as high a number as they want to make it.

One question: How did you guys check your financial aid statements?

If you've just been accepted, they probably don't have financial aid statements up yet, but if they do, they would probably be on OASIS, although I'm not sure if new admits have access to that. From what I recall last year there was some student gateway where you could check financial aid.

The "Trojan" scholarship may be a ploy, but it's better than getting nothing (which is the amount every other college I got accepted to offered me). I guess you can say it helps for books and stuff.

yes! another vchs-er on collegeconfidential! haha : )
sayles is stressaholic, by the way...

Well I checked Oasis and SIG, but both of them still say "Information not available." I was accepted in early February, too. I've sent in all my fin. aid documents, and they verified them as well.

I just noticed that my Oasis hasn't been updated in 20 days. Maybe that's why.

For5aken: i was accepted in early february as a dean's scholar, and they have received all my finanicial aid documents. however, like you- my financial aid package isn't ready yet. i called the financial aid office today.. they said they haven't finished putting together my financial aid package because they still need to hear about scholarships from the admissions office... i already know i've received the dean's scholarship, so i don't know what this means. maybe i'm being considered for others? anybody have any experience with this? he says i'll receive my fin aid package by the first week of april.

Give it a few more weeks. Admissions just started mailing out regular acceptance notices this week so most people haven't heard anything yet.
