How close does NEU match what the FAFSA suggests? I’m aware there are other factors that apply, but my family and I ran their calculator, and while it is a good 10k off from the FAFSA, it is still a relatively reasonable price. I will need lots of aid, and will not be receiving any information about it until sometime this week.
Northeastern is a CSS Profile school so the FAFSA EFC is irrelevant. They would not "match’ the FAFSA EFC.
Have their offers historically been very close to what one would come up with should they use their own calculator? Just a bit nervous as I need lots of aid and I don’t think NEU has a history of being too generous in that regard
The NPC will be accurate if your parents are married (to each other), their income is essentially from wages and salaries, no major investments and the only property they own is their primary residence. That is the case with all NPC’s. The aid package will include federal loans. Northeastern says they will meet 100% of demonstrated need and that policy has been in effect for a few years only. But they are need aware in admissions.
Phew alright. Luckily the hard part in admission is over.
We ended up getting SLIGHTLY more than the NPC on Northeastern’s website. The other good news about the NU Grant (what they call the financial aid you don’t have to pay back) is it increases as the COA increases. Finally, if money is tight, you can save a few bucks by choosing a smaller meal plan and choosing the cheapest room option. Good luck & aloha.
My family makes sub 65k a year, our efc on their calculator was 15k, yet their offer that just came in is making us pay 45k. This has got to be a mistake right? Pretty devastated right now.
You can file an appeal.
Sorry to hear about the FA offer
Do appeal! Good luck, but it will likely not be a huge change. You never know though.
