I’m looking at my MyCSULB and I was wondering what I should do about my financial aid. I’ll be living on campus so my estimated Financial Aid budget according to them is $24,568.00 and that my estimated need is $20,539.00. However I’m only being offered $13,287.00 including Cal State Grants and the Pell Grant, and I’m worried about having to pay the rest out of pocket. They say my parents’ expected contribution is $4,029.00 but I’m not sure where they’re getting that information because my parents aren’t going to pay at all for any of my tuition. Should I contact Financial Aid an
What is your EFC? Your parents contribution is based off their income and assets submitted on the FASFA. You have been given enough aid to cover tuition, books and some on-campus living expenses but CSULB does not meet need so you are expected to have your parents contribute to your education along with yourself through savings, work and student loans. CSU’s also assume students will be commuting from home. Do you have any afforable options? Also COA is always higher than reality. You have been good aid for a CSU since tuition is covered and you have a little over $5000 to put toward your on-campus living costs.
@Gumbymom Thank you for responding! ^^ My EFC is 004029 and I’m thinking about work-study as well since I did check that option on my application. The reason I’m a little more worried is because I have a sister who is my age and will be attending college as well at the same time as me. I know that if I’m ever in a pinch, my parents can provide some support, however they are not looking to cushion all my tuition. I have no commuting options and am considering living off campus starting my second year, however for now I will be dorming. Your reply has relieved me however and I’m sure I will be fine as long as I work part time as well. Thank you!
You will probably be offered the $3500 subsidized and $2500 unsubsidized federal loans to make up the gap.
