Financial Aid

Washington University is my first choice and I live only two hours away. I think I have a fair chance of being accepted. My primary concern is the tuition that rivals that of Harvard.

My parents have recently had some difficulties with their jobs. Their combined income now is probably no greater than $50,000 a year. That's above average where we live, but it can't compete with WUStL's $30,000+ tuition.

So I'm wondering about financial aid. How much financial aid money is likely to be given to us by WUStL? Thanks.

Does nobody have any ideas? I'm not asking for a precise figure here, just a very rough guesstimate. I really don't know how the whole financial aid system works in colleges, either.

I could make up a number. But would that really satisfy you?

No, he's looking for someone who has somewhat of an idea that can give him a ballpark figure.

I'm just looking for the opinions of people who understand how WashU's financial aid department works. If you are not such a person, then you are not in a position to answer my question and "make up a number."

Nobody on this board will be able to answer that question accurately. You are just going to have to wait and see. Then you can laugh when you see your actual package vs. what we guessed for you. You seem kind of insecure even to have asked that question. Your package will have lots of different components.

hsseniorlooking, what's your problem? He's just asking a question. Maybe someone can answer it, maybe they can't. But he can still ask his question without you *****ing about it.

I feel like if your parents' combined income is anywhere below $60K, you'll have most of school paid for in need-based aid. A friend of mine from New York was in the same boat as you.

That's good to hear. Thanks for the reply.
