Financial Aid

Assuming your family can not afford to pay any of college expenses, will the Need-based Financial Aid cover all of the college, room and board expenses? So that the money you earn from an on-campus job could be spent on another necessary personal expenses?

An on campus work study job would be part of the financial aid package. So it really depends on what your EFC is.

Here it the formula:

COA = Cost of attendance: tuition, housing, books, incidental expenses
EFC = what you and your family are required to contribute

EFC + Grants + Subsidized Loan + Work Study = COA

If your EFC is 0, you could expect that your grant and loans would be enough to cover the parts billed by the college (tuition and housing) -- but if your EFC were, say, $5000 - then that might not be the case.

Your FAFSA EFC is no necessarily what Barnard will expect you to contribute, as Barnard might consider factors that are not counted in the FAFSA.

thnx. one more thing: When admitted under early decision, do they announce you if you also have full financial aid? Or else, when do they let you know?

hi!~ i was accepted early decision and the day after i got my acceptance letter, the financial aid office sent a preliminary drawup of how my financial aid package would look like, complete with what they expected me to get from grants and loans. i'm still waiting for my real financial aid package though.
