We were surprised to learn that the College still needed some forms to put together a financial aid offer. (Two weeks ago, I was told that everything was in.) My daughter's attendance is contingent on the financial aid award that she receives. For those of you who received your aid package, how close was the FAFSA EFC to the EFC assigned by MHC?

My daughter's Mount Holyoke EFC was much higher (approx. $7,000) than FAFSA. I'm sure this was due to the fact that FAFSA does not take into account home equity in the calculation and PROFILE, which Mount Holyoke uses , does consider home equity.
Since she applied and was accepted ED II , we had to take what she was offered. I'm not complaining though, what we are left to pay is doable and she is thrilled to be going the Mount Holyoke.

My FAFSA EFC was $35,000, which was discouraging. However, Mt. Holyoke gave me $20,000 in pure merit money (Mount Holyoke Leadership Award), leaving me with a MHC EFC of $22,000. Very generous, to say the least!

We are hoping that my daughter will be able to afford MHC. Unfortunately, we are house-rich and income poor. Gives us a reasonable FAFSA but I'm afraid the Profile EFC will put MHC out of reach for us....

since i see that there are parents here, i hope you can help me. i am an international student and my family cannot afford to pay the fc mhc expects. is there any way to ask mhc to reduce the fc or should i say goodbay to attending mhc:(

I don't think that any of us here can respond -- but you have nothing to lose by calling MHC and talking with them.

This is from the Mount Holyoke web site:

"Is my financial aid package negotiable?
Mount Holyoke College does not negotiate financial aid packages. However, if there is a change in your family's financial picture, which was not considered during the original review, Mount Holyoke will reexamine the situation. The appeal process does not guarantee a revision in your package."

I contacted the financial aid office about this same issue and was also told the above.

Does anyone know if I can apply for Financial Aid my sophomore year? I applied as an international, but will get permanent residency next year.

CrewMom -- kind of random question based on your username. Does your daughter row? Is she planning to at Mt. Holyoke? I think I am...

You have to reapply for finaid every year, so yes, you should be able to apply any of your 4 years.

Anyone besides us that still has not received their financial aid package? My daughter's file is still "under consideration" so a decision has not yet been made, much less been sent. Sigh.
