I am planning on applying to USC this fall and was all for it before checking out a thread on this forum. Apparently USC has cut off most of it's grants to some of the current students. Should I be worried about this when choosing to attend this institution? I come from a family of which has an EFC near about $3000. I would be heavily relying on financial aid to attend USC and it would kill me if I couldn't keep pursuing my college career due to financial aid being cut down while attending.

On that thread, 10 students reported reduced financial aid. Of those 10, three had a sibling graduate and so the EFC was no longer split. One student had made several errors on the FAFSA and when the erors were corrected the student received a revised - and satisfactory - package. One had a $2,000 reduction - upperclassmen are expected to take on about $2,000 more in loans than freshmen, so that is consistant. Two of the posters have only one post, and it is on that thread - they may be legitimate posts, but when there is only one post you have to wonder if an unhappy student created the screen names just to post negative items.

That leaves 3 (or five if you include the 1-post screen names) posters who seem to have had unexplained reductions in FA. Out of over 16,000 undergraduates.

Also on that thread, eight reported FA about the same (including the student who received a revised package), and one reported an increase, for a total of 9 students happy with their FA.

Your conclusion about USC financial aid is flawed.

Well I’m sorry to have assumed incorrectly. Also I never came to any conclusion, I was simply asking others for their conclusion on this situation so I can draw mine off of current students and their situations.
