I don't know if I should apply for financial aid or not. Parents told me they can afford it at least for first two years. I heard nowadays that applying for FA matters for admission. What do you guys think? Btw, I'm applying ED.

Emory is Need Blind - so yes apply for FA, beside FAFSA is needed for scholarships

[Need-Based Financial Aid](<a href=“Admission | Emory University | Atlanta GA”>Admission | Emory University | Atlanta GA)

It doesn’t hurt to apply for FA, if your going to need FA after 2 years, might as well see if you can get some money now.

You should definitely apply for FA.
It shouldn’t hurt you, since Emory is supposedly need-blind.

Admissions counselors do not see your family’s financial income. That is handled by the financial aid office. Your financial need will not be calculated in the admissions process.

But there’s a part in CommonApp where I have to put whether I’ll be applying for need-based financial aid. Don’t admissions counselors see this?

Yes, they see this, but I just told you that this is not factored into the admissions process!

It’s a controversial issue. Need blind universities insist that they ignore this little piece of information. Some people don’t believe them. Without being able to see inside the heads of the admissions committee it’s hard to say. One important point, schools with managed admissions actually pay attention to the amount of financial aid the student will be looking for. Since all the committee has to work with is the fact that you are applying for the aid it is unlikely to have a significant impact on the admissions decision. Also, many schools are reluctant to provide aid to students, who did not initially apply for aid. I don’t think Emory has an official policy limiting aid to those who apply before admission but on balance I think you should apply for it.

Emory admissions counselors will only see that you need money and not the amount. They won’t factor that into the admissions process. If you need for me to confirm this for you, I will walk to the admissions office and ask them if they do, just for confirmation.

Curious is also correct on what he says, but I financial based admission does not apply to Emory.
