Worth Applying even if you're "sure" you won't get aid?

So, my parents are convinced we won't get aid, and obviously they know better than me. Somehow though, I thought everyone had to do the FAFSA and the CSS.

My opinion is, it doesn't hurt for need-blind schools, right? (Ex: Harvard).

PS: Sorry for so many new threads, I take complete responsibility for my severe ignorance and procrastination.

Stefany,

I am a Mom and I just completed the FAFSA and CSS/Profile, even though our EFC is very high & my d is not eligible for need based aid. Although I understand my d probably will not get aid, some/most schools require it for any merit scholarships. Most institutional aid is disbursed through the Fin Aid dept, so the FAFSA and/or Profile are necessary.

Also, circumstances change. It makes sense to to file the FAFSA & Profile, because if something happens later (losing a job, house fire, car accident) you already have the paperwork on file - which can then be revised to reflect the current reality.

The paperwork is daunting - I am self employed so we are on the 3rd revision of the Profile...But your parents should file anyway.

Hope this helps....

ditto what NEM2 says. Also, if your family's financial circumstances change, some schools REQUIRE that you applied for FA as a freshman in order to request it in later years.
