Financial Aid?

All,

It looks like that Stephaniie13 also received less aid than expected. It is indeed difficult to meet everyone’s needs. I think that FAFSA calculates EFC based upon income, investment, and number of children in college. It is probably the only one Penn can go by for incoming freshmen. As long as Penn provides aid to fill the gap between EFC and the expense, they have done a great job.

My boy is a high school freshman. I am not sure if he would be as good as you all when he reaches his senior year. But, I would like to see how much I need to prepare if he does.
What is the realistic expectation for the Penn FA: 80% or 90% of (expense - EFC per FAFSA)?

necrophiliac: Interesting how much detail you’ve already provided about you “unfortunate circumstances” caused by your parents that “grossly mismanaged their finances” so badly that they are “pushing bankruptcy”. More details? Your parents have all their credit lines maxed out, and almost 300k owed to friends/relatives/“angel investors” (loan sharks) and such. In addition, on the way back from your Penn visit you had 3 credit cards rejected at the gas pump and were almost stranded in the middle of nowhere.

I think you have “proven” more than enough.

lukuanvx, EFC is about 1/3 of gross yearly income. Penn will meet it about 80%.

necrophiliac,

Thanks for the info. It is helpful for planning purposes.
