Financial Aid

how much financial aid could I get from duke. parents make ~90,000 dollars combined. They are old (haha) and will probably both retire about as soon as I get into college.

Hm, my parents made around $80k this year combined. I have two siblings younger than me, and our EFC is around $9k.

Duke offered us almost $40k this year. So maybe you’ll receive something in that ballpark?

ok thanks!

That sounds right. I saw on their brochure that the avg grant amount for 80-100k was 35-40k.

Well it varies on individual circumstances. My parents (mom and step-dad) make around $80K a year combined, and Duke gave me approximately $55,000 in financial aide. $49,430 of that award was Duke grant money. Being that my non-custodial parent only made $24,000 this year, I may have gained an advantage, but I’m not sure. I’m just trying to say that it varies a lot from household to household. You might receive something around my aide?

If Duke doesn’t give you the financial aid you’re hoping for, remember that you can always save money by being frugal during your first year. For example, a lot of people in my Econ class showed up with Macbooks, but my Dell Studio 15 does the exact same job for $1,000 cheaper. I used the coupon code F2JP12F17NX915 and redeemed it here: <a href=“Computers, Monitors & Technology Solutions | Dell USA”>Computers, Monitors & Technology Solutions | Dell USA;

wow. talk about stealthy advertising tactics! wooohooooo! hahaah.
