Yes, we are very excited for Friday as well!!! Does anyone know if we will receive the financial package as well? If not, how long after does it usually arrive (post)?
@collegecounts If all of your doc’s were in on time I am told you should find out at the same time or a few days after being admitted. If not, I would contact financial aid office and inquire.
Thank you – I contacted the Admissions office a few days ago and they said something similar. Just over an hour left now. Good luck to you.
The Financial Aid Office requested additional documents from us and the day after receiving them, they posted our financial aid package. We would have liked more and will attempt to get more funding, but overall very happy with the process and the amount of aid awarded. Best of luck to others!
My family’s gross income is under 40K but Amherst is expecting me to contribute 9K. Does this sound right? I’m not sure if I should call and ask what’s up. My family and I cannot afford 9K/year under any circumstances.
Are there assets @drakefan ?
I will say that you should read the award letter very carefully. For one thing, Amherst doesn’t include student loans in their package but you can take up to $5500 next year to help cover your part if you need to. Also, you say your family contribution is $9K but a lot of that may be to cover books, travel and other expenses that you may be able to keep fairly low. Is there work study?
It may be more affordable than you think, even as it is.
As OHMomof2 states, they include all expected expenses - room, board, travel, books, health insurance (which you can request aid for separately). In terms of what Amherst will bill you, it is likely to be significantly under $9k. Amherst provides one of the most generous packages.
