So, right now I'm applying to only expensive private schools, and it's worrying me. I know I have the grades to get into my current safeties, but I don't know about scholarships and such. My parents make around 80k and I have a sibling in college, so I can't afford too much.

Here are my stats:
4.0 GPA (unweighted)
Rank 6/600
35 ACT
APs: 5s on AP Lang, Chemistry, and US History.

I'm taking AP Lit, AP Bio, AP Economics, AP Calc BC, and AP Stat this year

My ECs: NHS President, Student Council 4 years, help weekly at a children's center since 6th grade, work on weekends, Marching Band for 3 years

I love LACS near a city and the maximum size of a school I would like would probably be about 8,000. If you guys know any financial safeties or automatic scholarships for me that would be great! :) Thanks

Have you asked your parents what the price limit is? Have you checked net price calculators to see whether the net price after non-loan financial aid will be within that price limit?

Your stats will qualify for some full ride and full tuition scholarships listed here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1348012-automatic-full-tuition-full-ride-scholarships.html . For example, University of Alabama - Huntsville has a full ride for your stats, and has under 8,000 students. Prairie View A&M also meets those criteria.

However, in-state public schools are often good for low price and financial aid. Some states have small public LACs. What is your home state?

Here is a list of public LACs: [COPLAC | Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges](http://www.coplac.org/members/)

If there is one in your state of residency, you may want to look into it.

A few of them have relatively low list prices even for out of state students (e.g. Truman State, University of Minnesota - Morris).

Is your EFC affordable? If so, check out 100% need schools or those close to it. Franklin & Marshall is one I can think of right now (they weren’t 100% need, but have moved to it recently).

For merit aid, Lafayette tends to be good. LaSalle (Catholic) was also very good for one of our students last year.

Oberlin also tends to be good with aid.

What major or region of the country are you interested in?

Thank you SO much for your help guys! Our EFC is like 8k per year, which is around where we can probably pay. My parents keep avoiding the topic, but I’ll ask again today for a definite number.

I’m in Texas and I’m interested in any region, except the way Northeast area. That’s a little too far away for now.

I’ll go look at the schools listed :)

Parents avoiding the topic => assume that they cannot or will not contribute anything in the worst case.

Consider having at least one automatic full ride school as your safety.

Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about. I know they will help me however they can (they are super supportive), but I don’t know how much.

I’ll definitely go look at the automatic full rides, like University of Alabama :)

If you’re interested in LACs in/near cities, I would take a look at Rhodes if I were you. It’s in Memphis and I think you’d be a very strong candidate for some of their merit aid opportunities. In addition, you might get financial aid, bringing your total costs to an affordable level.
