Finanial Aid Award now online!!

Just checked the financial aid again this morning (because the wording of the letter and all the numbers in the "March 23" letter were identical to the one we got at ED time). The online letter date has changed to March 24 -- maybe the aid is still not final? Guess we'll have to wait for snail mail confirmation to be sure.

Just checked mine again. Under budget, it now shows all the costs, instead of just saying transportation (like it said yesterday). But, my amount of fin aid is the same.

Am I looking at the wrong page? Or does this have anything to do with the fact that I kinda forgot to submit my FAFSA to Rice?

The instructions state that if you want to be considered for need based aid during the decision process you had to submit the financial information required by the deadlines. .
However, The web sites states:
"*Dates refer to deadline by which FAFSA must be filed in order to receive a financial aid package at the time of admission notification. Late financial aid applications will be processed up until the time of enrollment."

You do not have to submit the forms for merit aid (except for Shepherd). So if you plan to attend and still think you could qualify for need based aid, get the form done. If you want additional information considered for your EFC contact the financial aid office and talk to them.

I just called admissions to clarify the merit awards info since our letter is just a form letter saying that we do not qualify for aid. The admissions person who answered the phone said that the awards come in the mail, and that those who already know are getting need based aid plus merit scholarships, so the merit scholarships automatically upload with the aid package. One more thing to wait for....tap, tap, tap.

got the same info. Financial aid said they only post need based awards. Admissions says merit aid awards come with letter in the mail unless you already found out online because merit was attached to financial aid letter.

So like you, more waiting........glad to be in. Want to see if there's a merit award possiblity before we really go crazy!!!!

Marsie--It is probably more accurate to say that those that know are the ones that applied for financial aid. My son did send in our FAFSA (bc some schools require it for merit aid, so we sent it to all, just in case), but we do not qualify for aid. His financial aid award letter online said "sorry no aid," but it does list the 2 merit scholarships.

?? i still have an empty screen for my financial aid letter. the only thing i havent turned in yet is my citizenship documentation and selective service. anyone else have this problem? are they still uploading these online?

I got 24K and need to pay 23K

^I thought COA was slightly less than that... Isn't it like 43K even after all the misc. costs?

Nevermind... I just checked, it's COA is like 46K. Darn it...

Did anyone else get a Rice Tuition Grant? I got $19,195.00 for Fall 09 and another $19,195.00 for Spring 10... for a total of $38,390. Is this based on need?

yea im pretty sure they give you a grant to meet your need

Yes, it's need based and only for current year. You might get it again for the following years, but it will depend on your future Fafsa / CSS Profile numbers.

wow nice fin aid package
my rice calculated efc is unfortunately high
oh well, i might end up at a state school w/ full ride

lalala 0 need based aid 0 merit based aid lalala :(

So basically, if you get need based, than your merit award is also included, but if you don't get need based, you have to wait for your possible merit in the mail?

No, your merit aid should appear online, if they already have processed you.

Log on, -> Finaid Requirements -> FinAid Award Letter:

Dear xxx:

Thank you for completing your financial aid application. After a careful review of the items submitted, we have determined that you are not eligible for need-based financial aid. We do have record, however, that you have been selected as a merit recipient based on your scholarship and academic promise. Congratulations on this honor! Those awards are listed below:

Did you apply for need based?

I believe that if you did NOT apply for needbased aid, merit aid might show up in your admittance package. (This info was in someone else's posting.)

Bahh..I'm confused.

Better just wait for the letter. Anyone know how long it will take for the letter to get from Rice to MN? :)
