Find internships and a low GPA

Hello,
I am a junior majoring in economics and international studies at a top 13 school and I have a 2.88 GPA (i had gotten ridiculously sick last semester and got 2 Ds...before then I had never even gotten a C).
I am retaking the D classes but as of right now, my GPA is where it stands.

I am looking for internships in the area of finance, marketing, media, strategy consulting---i am pretty open to any opportunity at this point.

do you guys have any suggestions at this point? what can i do?? do you suggest i even attempt to search for an internship with a 2.88? what can i dooo?

my school's career center is not helpful at all--its so sad. im sad :(

Don’t focus on internships at this point.

Your GPA needs to be pulled up in a big way.

Make sure you also keep yourself healthy.

The field is so competitive you need to concentrate on your grades as CalDud advised.

Apply everywhere you can. The worst they can say is no. Remember, even the guy who graduated last in his class at med school is still a doctor.

^ thank you

I think you’re more likely to find an unpaid internship at smaller firms. They’re usually not as harsh about GPA as bigger more competitive firms. I would suggest you aim your search at unpaid smaller firms, but DO NOT be afraid to apply for bigger firms!

You could also always explain the situation in the interview or some kind of cover letter and explain that your GPA does not reflect your actual work ethic because of xx, yy, zz. Don’t be afraid! Just do better in the classes this semester as you’re internship hunting and make sure to explain your GPA. You could mention the grades you’ve had before the sickness.
