Finding an apartment

If I want to move out of the dorms for Fall 2007, when should I start looking for an apartment? Is it hard to find an apartment in Berkeley that's close to campus?

It's too early. Wait till the middle of next semester I say.

Agreed. Just search Craigslist a few months in advance and you'll surely find an opening.

How can I find a roommate? I am not that sociable...Is there any way that I can sign up for an apartment and be paired randomly? Sorry for the stupid question.

Hey, are apartments for singles available often?

ill be your roommate........as long as you cook and clean up after me...jk

no, be my apartment mate (not roommate). You don't have to cook or clean up after me, like GBread does.

Don't get a random roommate. There are way too many deadbeats and social malcontents in Berkeley for this to be a positive expected value strategy.

Thank you for another cheery advice.

BlueElmo, what kind of "apartment" do you most want? There's other options out there you may not have heard of.

there are a couple philosphies about searching for an apartment. some people like to secure a place early and start searching around the middle of the spring semester. the advantage to that is, like i said, securing a place early as well as being able to shop around a little. the disadvantage, though, is that most of the places you can find that early have leases that start in june, and so you would either have to pay for those months, whether or not you are actually living there, or you would have to find a sublet for the summer. if you are planning on taking summer school or working in berkeley, then that is a good idea.

what other people do is come a few weeks right before school starts and do some very quick apartment shopping. this can be a little bit more stressful, but it saves you the hassle of having to pay for an apartment during the summer.

are there lots of apartments really close to the campus, that would be obtainable?

an apartment which i can share with one other person. Middle of spring semester? Okay, I was gonna start searching this winter break, but I guess that is too early.

the apartment complex im living in is brand new and still has a lot of vacancies...its small and overpriced, but it nice to look at

its called Library Gardens...shattuck and kittredge

check it out

where do most people live? Is anyone seeking a roommate?

yeah I told you, I am.
