What steps have you taken to search out those little scholarships? I've seen "go to your local Rotary/Kiwanis/Other Club," but besides that, what other steps can one take to find local ones? My school doesn't have any that apply to me, and my parents are not members of any organization or union.

I've also found FastWeb not really useful b/c it lists mostly corporate or other major scholarships that are extremely difficult to win. Any ideas or tips?

Thanks in advance.

i haven't found fastweb to be much helpful either...maybe others have better opinions on where to find scholarships...

Most of the local ones I've come across were -- yes -- from checking with organizations. Sometimes schools post them, or else the guidance counselor has heard of that. Other than that, try searching something like "(city) scholarships."

Regional/local banks and credit unions, grocery store chains, national franchise outlets may all have specific regional or local scholarships for students within the areas they serve. Certain professional organizations (firefighters/police, trades, educators), trade union locals, veterans organization posts (VFW/Am. Legion), business associations and service clubs like Kiwanis, Moose, or Masons tend to have local scholarships. If your parent is a member of a trade union, there may be some scholarship money there as well.

Alright. Do I just email them, or call in? I can't imagine calling the local Safeway and asking the manager if he/she offers scholarships...

Some places will have scholarship information on their websites; Google the name of a store, like Safeway, and browse around. If that fails, I would email rather than call. Chances are the average employee wouldn't be too aware of that.

Also, check your city's Chamber of Commerce. Sometimes they have scholarships.
