Is the Fine Arts Submission supplement only for those prospective students wishing to major/minor in an area of fine arts? My daughter does not plan on formally studying music (voice), but is very much interested in joining a choir. I should mention that the vast majority of her extracurriculars and leadership experience are choral or music related. Should she complete the form, or perhaps just submit a performance sample as part of the general supplement...or not at all?
Thanks :)

if your D plans on participating in music in some way at W&M (even if it’s not through a formal major or minor) it is worthwhile to make a fine arts submission. Just as we rely on our coaches to discern the most talented athletes in our pool, we rely on our fine arts faculty to discern the most talented artists in our pool. If your D’s submission is highly rated by our faculty that can certainly be a plus factor for her.

To make a fine art submission you need to send both the form and the actual submission (in your D’s case most likely a DVD of her singing). Instructions can be found at [William & Mary - Arts Submissions](http://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/applicationprocess/artssubmissions/index.php)

Thanks!

She will certainly do that then. You advise sending a DVD…but here’s what it says on the link you included:

“Submissions to the music department should be the best quality possible and feature you as a soloist with appropriate accompaniment. the music department will not review DVDs or large ensemble pieces”

So…DVD or no DVD?

Ooops, sorry for the confusion. Music is the one department that doesn’t want DVDs. They prefer CDs.

Ah, OK. This will be challenging, since all her performances are videos…but we shall find a way!
Thanks again for your help :)

…just checked with my daughter and she had already arranged a recording session with her voice teacher for submission material.

Guess I should have checked with her first…lesson learned :))

Good for her for being so on top of the application process!
