Please give me some advice. I have always wanted to change my major since my junior year to accounting, but I have stayed in Econ because I don't want to spend 2 more years at my university. I took financial and managerial accounting and aced it. This semester, I'm taking Auditing, Intermediate and Business law and Accounting ethics at my community college to see what accounting is really like. So far, I'm really enjoying the courses and just finished my midterms with an A.

In my senior year, I am faced with the same dilemma as last year. Should I major in accounting and spend a year or more in my university? Or instead take the required classes for the CPA exam in an accredited community college? The reason why I want to stay here is that we have a good accounting program and most accounting students have interned in the big 4. I don't think I will have that opportunity in a community college or after I'll get my BA in Econ.

I can’t say either way for certain for you, but I can say that my wife’s best friend was an econ major and now works at Big 4.

I would take the classes at your local CC, myself, and just work toward the CPA. One nice thing about the CPA is that you can take the courses outside of your BA.

Oh my gosh, I just joined this forum to ask the exact same question! What a coincidence lol. I want to know the same thing, I’m almost done with a psych degree though… Hopefully more people answer this question because I would love to hear some more opinions!

Look for a MACC school that doesn’t require an undergraduate accounting degree. William and Mary is a good one off the top of my head. UNC-Chapel Hill too, I think.
