no... who's jordan?

He's only a freshman. At many schools foreign languages aren't offered to freshman.

seriously?!?!?! In my school district they start foreign language education in seventh grade and even teacher basic vocabulary to the elementary schools, and trust me we're a pretty ****-poor district, but wow if this is true that's seriously news to me.

Also, to the OP, which numbers are we supposed to respond to, the one on this thread or the one in the "What are My Chances?" forum because there are obviously some inconsistencies.

Foreign language is MANDATORY in NYC.
I started in Spanish V/VI.

And Jordon was this beast at my camp who pwned me in math (breezing into calc), going to sophomore year, and is 13 or something.

People like that DO exist and ARE insecure about themselves. There was another one of those kids at my camp but was a hermit so I can't recollect his name. (He's in his senior now and should be 13 or 14).

Chances threads from freshmen/sophomores are idiotic. First of all, it's pathetic that you're one year into high school and already obsessing about college. Second of all, we can't tell you anything besides nice job, study hard, don't do drugs. What exactly are you looking for? Do everyone a favor and go do something more productive.

Okay, first of all, if you ask at the end of junior year about your EC's, classes, etc, and you find you've been on the wrong track, TOO LATE TO CHANGE ANYTHING BUDDY.

You don't deserve a more coherent response.

There is nothing wrong with posting threads like this one early in high school.

If the OP had posted last year, people could have pointed out that some of the most selective colleges, such as Harvard, prefer that applicants have four years of foreign language. Therefore, taking two sciences in 9th grade, rather than one science and first-year foreign language, was not ideal. (In fact, I am amazed that the OP's guidance counselor allowed this.)

So in one respect, the OP actually waited too long to post!

Bassmaster, make sure you stick with the foreign language throughout the rest of high school. When the time comes to apply to college, make sure to include some schools that don't care so much about foreign language on your list.

Don't neglect social studies, either. You should take at least three year-long courses, even if your school doesn't require that many.

come on, let's not accuse anyone of lying here. CC is too loving a community to feel the pressure to lie.

...but, i definitely agree that if you're only a rising sophomore, chillax a little, okay? enjoy high school for high school's sake, not for what college it will get you into. there's plenty of time for thinking about that stuff when you're a late junior/early senior (or even rising junior).

go see a movie or a concert with your friends or something. enjoy your summer.
