the title honestly says it all.
I’m majoring in Software Engineering and I’m gonna finish my second year in a month but with each day passing i just seem to hate my major more and more.
i really enjoy learning but i feel like i’ve made a mistake.
i’ve taken C, C++ and C# courses but i dont even remember a single line from them. i didnt even enjoy coding when i did for projects and stuff. it’s all just a bunch of letters and numbers to me.
my mental health is really suffering because of this and i’ve fallen behind in most (if not all) my subjects.
i’m more of an art and literature person and studying so many courses of math and physics is not enjoyable for me at all.
should i switch majors? or take the SAT again next year? or just drop out? i’m really stressed and confused.
What DO you like? What do you see yourself doing professionally? Having quant skills is quite attractive to employers outside of CS too. Is there a way to minor in CS (if you’ve already satisfied most of those requirements) and major in something else?
Why would you retake the SAT at this point?
i dont really have any skills in programming and coding. my skills are mostly in the music and writing field and no sadly there isn’t a way for me to minor is CS. i’d have to go through all 4-5 years.
I can switch my major through my own university or going to the other branches of my university but if i want to change my university, i have to take the SAT again. in my country there are overall 5 SATs i believe for 5 different fields, Math, Sciences, Arts and Music, Languages and Humanities and the score of that determines your university and major.
So you are not currently enrolled in a university in the US.
You’ll only succeed in CS (or any subject) if you’re deeply interested in it and is good at it. You’re neither. If music and writing are what you’re good at, leverage your talent in those areas. You should switch out of CS as soon as possible.
If you’re a CS major who hates programming, switch majors. I’m not really a fan of majoring in art of literature if you’re worried about getting a job, but if you like art, maybe you can have one foot in art and one in tech by switching to something like web design or industrial design. There are graphic design and media programs that focus on using computers, too.
What country are you in?
Could you switch to GIS?
CS majors don’t necessarily have to code. There are many paths. IT is one. Doing UX/UI is another. Getting into Professional Services or Systems Engineering is yet another.
Unless you’re going to a really tiny school, quite often there will be upper division classes or electives where no coding is involved.
What do you mean by “i’ve taken C, C++ and C# courses but i dont even remember a single line from them.”? I am confused
Regarding your question, what if I tell you, MAJOR in something that is more profitable (your degree is great) and do MINOR in your passion? Thinks about this, what if you do minor in Art?
