I have spent the last 30+ years trying to finish my Bachelors degree only to get 7 classes away and run out of financial aid. I have applied for scholarships and unfortunately am in default on my loans. To get a better paying job so I can afford to pay the student loans will require me to finish my degree - a vicious circle. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am a single parent just barely getting by. I have tried and tried to figure out ways but to no avail. 7 classes - thats it.

Can you take one class at a time per semester?

Another thing to consider is, can any of the 7 classes be fulfilled by taking a course at a local low cost community college and transferring the credit?

First of all, it’s important to try to get out of default. Have you contacted your loan servicer to find out what you can do to get out of default? If not, please do so right away. As soon as you get to the point where you are eligible for a repayment plan, get yourself into an income based repayment plan … your payment will be pegged to your AGI and family size. You won’t be eligible for any financial aid until you are out of default. I agree that one class at a time is your best bet in order to finish school. Best wishes to you!
