So my cousin who'll be going to college this year told me he is considering Fire Protection Engineering and asked me if I know anything about it. He wants to stay in the Boston area upon graduation and some of his friends told him FPE will provide him tremendous opportunities to do so. I don't really know much about FPE. I know ME and ECEs have a lots of job opportunities in the Boston area. So I guess I'm wondering if anyone here know about Fire Protection Engineering::

-- Is it a solid Engineering Major?
-- How is the job outlook?
-- Is it easy to find jobs? or difficult compared to rest of the engineering majors?
-- What kind of companies hire FPEs?
-- Is it easy to find internship?

I can’t help you, but I will tell you it’s not really a main engineering field/major, it’s one of those specialty types (like Paper Engineering) that exists at like 1 or 2 schools in the country. It’s just a one subject sort of a thing. The best information you’re going to get is by going to those school’s websites and finding employment statistics.

Thank you. Anyone else know about FPE?

I know NIST hires FPE’s out of UMCP because they do a lot of work with testing new materials.

I personally don’t know much about it, however, my friend’s husband graduated from the University of MD - College Park in that field and has a nice job with the county government here in MD. Their daughter just graduated in that major (also at UMD) and is now working on her Masters there.

Thank you all. Appreciate all the info. If anyone happen to have any more info that’d be great.
