I'm currently a Junior in high school. I will be a first generation college student, living under the poverty level, and I have a twin sister who will be entering college the same year as me. How will this help/affect my admissions?

I have a 4.0 unweighted, 4.3 weighted, will have taken 8 AP courses by the end of senior year, and am taking the SAT in a week and am estimated to get between 2,000-2100.

It varies with the college, but first gen tends to be a tip factor in admissions.

It sounds like you’ve done a great job in HS as a first gen and low income student. Admissions does consider the fact that you’ve overcome these obstacles. My advice is to do some reading (I like the book Admissions Matters by Sally Springer, it may be at your local library), learn about need based financial aid and merit aid (the website finaid.org is a good start), and hang around here to get a feel for the application/financial aspects of college admissions (stay away from the Chances forum and do due diligence in checking the experience of other posters before you accept their advice).

I’m assuming you’re not a URM as you didn’t mention it. You certainly have some tip factors on your side. If your rank is as high as I assume given your GPAs, I would work to raise your SAT scores as much as you can to make yourself as competitive as possible for the schools with great financial aid such as the ivies and top LACs.
