Hi,
I’m just wondering if it’s easier for first generation students to get accepted to NYU. I know that NYU has 20% first generation students.

It certainly plays a factor in their admission since they even posted it on their website. However; 1st gen college student itself won’t get you anywhere, you still need the appropriate GPA and test scores to get in, I personally think it matters only when judging two applicant with similar stat. The one with first gen would get in. After all, first generation college student is not like underrepresented minorities, there is no affirmative actions for first gen college students.
Thanks!
Many first generation college students come from middle class and even a few from affluent families. First generation does not equal disadvantaged.
@ZZHA8608 Most universities are on the look out for talented first generation students and it will figure in your favour. Indeed, that’s why there is a question about your parent’s educational status on the CommonApp. If admitted, there are also special programs for first generation students though they are not as well developed as you’d find at Columbia, Princeton etc.
