First semester = crap

I'm doing chemE at purdue (first year engineering.) My classes are intro physics, calc 1, chem1, engineering/computer tools. I expect a b/a in calc, b/a in chem, c/b in engineering, and c/b in physics. How bad is this? I know why I did bad; I slacked. I just now understand good study habits, etc. In calc, I am doing good, same with chem. How bad am i ****ed? Can I offset this with a stellar 2nd semester? If I get A's in calc 2/chem 2/phys 2/hnrs english, will I be ok?

If you are Purdue you are Pre Engineering so it will matter only as it relates to how many they enter in ChemE. You likely know that. Cum number is the rule I do believe. Make up the GPA and you'll be fine. Purdue limits the spots into the major. You can always take summer school or an extra semester.

There is only gpa requirement for bme, meche, and ee. cheme has no req; very few students enter. At worst i'm looking at a 2.5 first semester, 4.0 second semester.

At worst you are looking at a 4.0 second semester? A bit confident?

Will you be ok for what?

Will my transcript be ok is what I meant. I know getting a 2.5 is **** for freshman year. The reason I think I'd get 4.0 second semester is b/c I've found out how to study efficiently for exams now. I'm great at the chem topics they're teaching next semester, I am above average in calculus, and I have confidence that I will do good in physics (lots of practice). English is my only worry; I might get a 3.5 if I don't do well in English.

At many larger schools, the first semester or two of an engineering program is weeder courses- they're trying to weed out the people who aren't going to do well, so many times freshman classes can be rather rough.

This is typical of for most froshs in engineering--just make sure you are above the minimum and work hard to raise your final GPA to above a 3.0!
