First semester schedule for MechE

I'm going into the school of engineering, probably for MechE, so I was wondering if this schedule for the fall semester looks good. I already have AP credit for Chem, US Hist, and English Lang, and I should have credit for Calc BC, Physics C Mechanics and E&M, Econ Micro and Macro, English Lit, and Spanish.

So here's what I'm thinking:

MATH 1920 - Multivariable Calculus for Engineers
CS 1110 - Introduction to Computing Using Java
ENGRI 1170 - Introduction to Mechanical Engineering
PSYCH 1101 - Introduction to Psychology
FWS
PE

Any ideas, comments, suggestions, recommendations?

I would take Matlab (CS 1112) instead of Java. I’m not MechE but I have taken some MechE courses and Matlab is used extensively in most of them. Java is only really useful for CS and ECE majors.

Yup. Matlab > Java for MechE. Let’s add a few more >>>>> to that for emphasis. In fact, I’ve forgotten what I’ve learned in Java…

I wouldn’t take an ENGRI and a CS course in the same semester - generally what people do is take an ENGRI one semester and a CS course the other. Your freshman year, you should really cap out at 5 courses, including your PE. So, really, 4 “real” courses. I know you said you have credit for Physics and Chem, but I would still stick to 4 classes plus the PE. Also, good luck getting into Psych 101. ERRYBODY takes that class. But taking an artsy elective is a good idea, I think.

Personally, I prefer Java - it’s really cool. But I’m also an Electrical/Computer Engineering major. But fallenmerc, you are SO wrong about that equality. SO wrong. I mean, what do you do in Matlab, make pyramids out of random characters? Our final project in Java was the classic Breakout game. WIN.
