Today I completed the 2019 fall term housing application for first year students. From reading previous discussions, I was under the impression that it would have us rank our dorm preferences, however this was not the case. It simply had me fill out my roommate preferences (how late I stay up ect.), list an emergency contact, and choose a meal plan. Are housing assignments entirely random this year, or do we pick the dorm at a later time?
They are for the most part random unless the student is participating in a Living Learning Community.
Hi there! I don’t remember doing housing as early as January. However, I will say that rising sophomores don’t pick housing til late March/early April so I’d assume incoming freshmen would be around then, maybe slightly after. I do remember ranking preferences (I wanted Historic so I put it as #1 and I got it) but that might have been closer to the summer, in April or May. If you want to know what’s up, I suggest emailing maybe your campus rep. or someone in the housing department.
Have heard this year they are doing it differently for freshmen. They will be surveying them and then match them up to housing neighborhoods based on their answers.
