First Year Student at a Junior College With a Few Questions

Hi everyone. My first time posting on here!
I am currently a first year student at a local junior college in California (Mt. San Antonio)
My decided major/majors are Finance/Marketing and my goal is to transfer to a school in the East Coast within a year or two (Fall 2010/Spring 2011 ideally).
I have taken 14 units so far with an estimated current GPA of about 3.7 (but will be taking 7 this winter and 15-18 in the Spring)
I'm wondering what I would need, as far as academics and extra-curricular activities go, to transfer into the following schools:

NYU Stern
SUNY Stony Brook (I'm not even sure if they accept California JC students.... :/ )
Penn State University Park
Rutgers University New Brunswick/Camden.
University of Pittsburgh
University of Virginia
University of Maryland
University of Connecticut
University of Delaware Alfred Lerner
George Washington University
And I know this is a very very far stretch, but Columbia.

What has been bothering me recently, however, were a few comments regarding transfers from California. A few people I have asked have told me that getting accepted to an East Coast school, especially Rutgers or Stony Brook, from a California JC is near impossible.
They have also told me that transferring credits is another issue as well.
I am originally from the East, and I am not interested in any of the universities in California at all... :[

As far as my other academic histories go, my SAT score was 2050.
My HS past is best left alone.
I went to a JC in order to basically turn my life around.

Sorry for the long list, but I'll be very thankful to anyone who contributes anything.
I appreciate your time to read this.
Thanks in advance.

stony brook will most likely take you, i TA’d a freshman class of 20 this semester and we had 3 kids from cali in my class alone. just write strong essays and any ECs relevant to your major always help.
