I want a fish. What kind can live in a bowl (not a tank), doesn't smell bad, won't die every few days, etc?

Siamese fighting fish! They are very pretty.

Magic FishBowl

^Oh my god, I want that fishbowl. D: They even have a turtle! But it's out of stock. :< It would be sooo much cooler if the bowl was bigger though.

PETCO 2 Gallon Hexagon Mini Fresh Water Aquarium at PETCO

I would suggest getting this. Siamese Fighting Fish aka Betta Fish, like high oxygen environments. It would improve the life of your fish and get rid of some of the smell because the water will at least be aerated. I used to have something very similar to this, and a betta fish. The light is nice too, because you can see in. :)

I was just gonna reccomend the Betta Fish, but others beat me to it. It's really fun when you put two bowls right next to each other. They'll try to attack through the glass. Just don't put more than one fish in a bowl.........otherwise you'll see why they're called the fighting fish.

I've always wondered- what do you do with your fish when you go on break? ):

I had a betta fish last year and I always just put 4-5 food pellets in his tank and left for breaks (1 wk or less), and he was always there and alive when I got back =)

My friend left her betta fish without food for 21 days over break...asked to be allowed into her room so she could keep the room from smelling because she assumed it died. It wasn't dead, and ended up living another 10 months.

common goldfish. those things are pretty hardy, and as long as they survive the first few days after you get them they'll survive for a good long time. can be fed pretty much anything too--bread, little pieces of lettuce, normal fish food, decent-sized bugs (that weren't killed by poison or bug spray)...

Beta are great dorm fish - just read up on them first and follow the "rules."

I know I am super late, but NO fish should be kept in a bowl. Fish need oxygen, and in stagnant water a fish can deplete the levels over time. Keeping Goldfish in small bowls is horrible. Goldfish are carp and carp can get huge. If you really want a fish, keep it in a small tank with some sort of way to export nutrients.
