Fisher M&T Accepted student discussion

I got accepted to the Fisher M&T program and I'm really excited about it. I wanted to start this post because I have a few questions for other M&T people.

1) Where else did you get accepted and where are you deciding to go?
2) If you chose Penn, how did you decide that?

I am more interested in the engineering side of this program and I'm worried that Penn doesn't have as good of a engineering program as my other acceptances (georgia tech, cornell). I don't really know if I should pick Penn just because of Wharton or whether I should focus more on engineering. Is this Penn opportunity too good to pass up?

I was also accepted to MIT, Princeton, Columbia Engineering, and Cornell Engineering. I’m stuck between MIT and M&T.

Haven’t decided yet, but I’m leaning towards UPenn!

Hey! Congratulations on getting into M&T - that’s a huge accomplishment. As a current M&T freshman, I’ve absolutely loved my time here so far.

I’m gonna say, don’t worry so much about other schools like GTech / Cornell being “better” at engineering. Penn’s engineering department is still excellent. I can’t speak for the prestige of all of our engineering departments, as I haven’t taken classes with all of them, but our bioengineering department is one of the best in the world. Our computer science department is highly underrated in national rankings and places kids in top programming shops like nobody’s business. Regardless, a school of Penn’s caliber is going to be extremely strong in every department.

If you have no desire to study business whatsoever, perhaps you should pick a purely engineering school - the extra business degree would just mean more classes that you wouldn’t necessarily want to take. But M&T is a really unique and quite prestigious business / engineering blend. What I love about it is that you can easily make the curriculum tailor to your interests. If you’re a mechancial engineering, for instance, there’s essentially an entire Wharton concentration focusing on product design. Moreover, Penn’s entrepreneurial spirit is something that Cornell and Georgia Tech won’t be able to offer you to the same degree.

I trust that you’ll make the right decision for yourself. Hopefully I’ll get to meet you during Penn Previews!

Hi! I’m in the same position. I also got into Carnegie Mellon for computer science and Penn for M&T. CMU clearly has the stronger computer science department, but idk, I’m leaning towards Penn because I think there’s more options once you graduate and the program seems really cool  also I’d prefer the social atmosphere at Penn to any more tech-y schools. But I’ll still visit.

Btw did anyone else add January on Facebook? Because I’ve been looking at the other acceptees. Seems like an interesting/diverse group of people!

Do this if you’re an M&T acceptee. January is amazing! Seriously, she’s an absolute Godsend in terms of being able to help students with academic and extracurricular questions. What she doesn’t know, she can find out in hours.

For me I think it is gonna come down to visiting some of the schools during the accepted students days and see where I can see myself. My dad really doesn’t want to get plane tickets for that though.
