Will my quiet , somewhat shy freshman feel overwhelmed by the Fisher school of Business?

She might.

A lot of business students are extroverts, for whatever reason, and my business classes over the past four years have required a great deal of collaboration and group work. I’m sure there are quiet and shy business students, but the environment tends to reward the opposite qualities, especially assertiveness. I have noticed that accounting majors tend to be the quiet ones among us, whereas marketing majors may be the most extroverted and social.

She won’t be taking many classes at Fisher until her sophomore year, so she’ll have the chance to ease into college life by taking general elective classes first, many of which are plenty comfortable for quieter students. I became more outgoing in college, so perhaps she will as well.
