@FITbound … 1/ congrats to your daughter. Not an easy program to get into.
2/ SUNY schools don’t usually award much bc they are State schools with lower tuitions to begin with. this is from the SUNY website:
FIT Scholarships
FIT scholarships, which may carry the name of the donor, are usually awarded to students with superior potential to succeed in their major areas, meet the donor’s requirements for the scholarship, and demonstrate high financial need, which is determined by the FAFSA.
Students must complete the FAFSA each year by the January 15th deadline and must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA. All recipients must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits and continue to be full-time. The average scholarship award is approximately $1,300. If you are eligible to receive one of these scholarships, you will be notified via email by Financial Aid Services and will be required to complete an online scholarship form.
Scholarships are not automatically renewed, based on funding or a change in criteria from year to year.
FIT Grants
FIT grants are based on financial need and availability of funds. Renewal is based on full-time enrollment (12 or more credits), maintaining a 2.3 GPA, and availability of funds. Recipients must file for financial aid each academic year by January 15th deadline. These grants are limited to four semesters in lower division and four semesters in upper division.
@anxiousmom19 Thank you! My daughter would only be eligible for merit awards if anything. The “award pending admission” peaked my interest. Every little bit helps!!
Another day without a packet. I want to call but I don’t want to be “that parent” that calls every day. I doubt they will tell us over the phone if she is admitted.
My daughter was also too excited and she called. They said her application was submitted and a decision was made. She doesn’t know what the decision is but she should know by the beginning of April. Letters went out yesterday.
I just called them now and they said that I would be getting my decision between now and early next week!!! The guy on the phone was super friendly you guys should call and ask them if you are really curious.
@misung2056 congrats!!! Have you got your dhl tracking number by email??
What’s the difference between outstanding applicant and advanced standing freshman? Or are they the same?
@hailey0605 “Advanced Standing Freshman” means you said you have taken AP or college level courses on your application. I THINK “Outstanding Applicants” are those who ranked high academically and was up for the Presidential Scholarship. They are usually sent their packets first.
would a transfer be an “advanced freshman standing” applicant ?
I would think so. You took college classes previously, so the rule should still apply. But I’m going by what I read in last year’s thread.
Sidenote: I don’t think FIT is very complicated in their admissions process, like other schools. They probably just use the software that SUNY gives them and the software seems pretty old.
@kmalin if you are transfer with credits from another college you would not be a freshman advanced standing. That is for incoming freshmen with AP classes.
@Eightd Thank you. But is an advanced standing freshman is more beneficial? more likely to get accepted?
@hailey0605 no not yet. I don’t know yet whether Im accepted or not. But I’ll know within a week or so!
@misung2056 will they send it by email? Or will they send the packet first?
does it come DHL or regular mail?
I think it’s email then mail but not sure. DHL for international probably. The guy on the phone made it sound like I will be getting mail first since I live in America (even though I’m an international applicant) but it was little hard to understand him over the phone because he spoke so fast.
They told me that I am going to get an email first and then a letter as I’m an international student and my address is outside of the us.
Hey guys…new to the chat…I too am patiently waiting. Can the days go any slower
Any transfers hear anything yet?
@mgabriellax im still waiting to hear back
