Fitness, fitness, fitness

I'm a runner and I'm just wondering whether there are any good running areas around UCSD, ones that are close to ERC. Also, are there any good fitness centers in UCSD, ones with threadmills.

There's a Running Club that meets every day in case you wanted people to run with. They meet at Muir in the afternoon.

This is coming from a cyclist rather than a runner, but you should try North Torrey Pines on the west side of the campus. It runs up and down close to the coast and will be a far more interesting run than a loop around suburbia

The RIMAC has a fitness/weight room in it with treadmills.

It depends how long you want to run for. If you're only planning on running 0-30 minutes I'd recommend running in the UCSD Ecological Forest (on the northeast part of campus). If you are looking for a longer run (50+ minutes) you could run on the beach or head north of the golf course and run along the trails on the bluffs (Torrey Pines State Park).

If you can drive then there are plenty of good trails to run within 5 o 10 minutes of driving up or down Highway 5.

(This is assuming you want to run on trails as opposed to concrete/apshalt)

the ERC Woods is a good place to run -- quiet, perfect terrain (good for the shins, etc.), and lots of shade.

that club seems nice. i might try it out

Cool, I guess I don't have to worry about running alone.
Now I'm really excited!
Thanks guys/girls.

how's the school's gym/weight room?

loads better (and better-ventilated) than the one at the school i go to now. you'd think $50,000/yr tuition could afford some better equipment ...

well, it's good to know that it's well ventilated :)

I heard among UC's the RIMAC is second to UCI's ARC, although I guess that doesn't really say much because UCI's gym is pretty amazing (even Kobe Bryant likes it enough to go work out and play pickup games there).

Yeah RIMAC is huge and has a lot of options, but if I'm looking for a quick workout I just go to Main since it's closer to Revelle.

I'm start my half-marathon training soon and will be doing multiple laps around campus loop on Saturdays.

There's that, the Eucalyptus trails, UCSD Track, Torrey Pines Beach, etc.

The San Diego Running Meetup Group (San Diego, CA) - Meetup.com

That's my running group and we convene several times a week. When offered, try doing the Torrey Pine -> Encinitas out-and-back runs with us; you run alongside the beach the entire way and you have a choice of cement, asphalt, or trail to run on depending what ground you're acclimated to.

i bet i'd own you ;]

I wouldn't doubt it as I only started running July

However, if you're into competitive powerlifting or olympic lifting, I'm pretty sure I'd destroy you at that :P

lol....
I joined the strides club here at UCSD. Although they say all levels are welcome, they are comprised of ridiculously fast runners and my schedule doesn't fit their running schedule.
to Oyama, where do you guys meet and what are you guys weekly schedule?

It's all in the website

And for that group, when they mean all levels welcome, they mean it. There are people in their 60s and people who are running 2:45 marathons and lots in between, so it's really welcoming.
