Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Thanks for posting my question over here @BunsenBurner ! I have also seen ads on my feed for the Running Buddy. Keep in mind I am not marathon training or doing Cross Fit etc. This is mostly for outdoor walks for fitness and for walking the dog etc.

@Midwest67 Wowzer! ?

I told you WAY back that you would get a 250 DL. And ur not too far away from two 45 plates (135#) on the bench.

I feel like a “pedestrian” posting after you.

Quickly, Friday was “cleaning day.” I worked up to a heavy clean. My HIIT was a CF “hero” workout called DT. DT consists of 5 rounds of 12 deadlifts, 9 hang cleans and 6 push jerks. Time: 15:30. Not great, but it’ll do. One of the young guys was asking me mid-exercise about why my bar has no knurling. It does, but it’s an oly bar. ?‍♂️ I finished with 3 large sets of GHD sit-ups and hip extensions.

So today, I started with muscleup and wall balls. I did 6 sets plus warmup sets. Bench press for my strength session. Worked up to a heavy triple and did a few singles at 92% of PR. Next was a combo of rope climbs and glute ham raises. And I finished with a 3 set combo of TM 1/2 mile sprints and toes to bar.

@surfcity I answered over on the other thread. :slight_smile:

@sushiritto

Yes! I remember your predictions and I seem to remember me thinking nahhhh.

:slight_smile:

I can see a 250# deadlift before the end of the year, but a 135# bench won’t be until 2021.

Slow, but getting stronger!

FWIW, when I hike, the trail runners around here are using Nathan.

4.3 miles this morning with a start later than ideal. We are having some really hot weather. High mileage week for me and I’m tired. Over 90% of the way finished with the Great Virtual Race Across Tennessee. That medal is in sight!

I made it about 28.5 miles on my bike this morning. I was hoping for 36, but my friend couldn’t do it in the heat. It was HOT, so I don’t feel too bad.

At one point we were thinking of going for a ride that was farther away. She suggested we both rid in my car. (Normally fine, but… ah… COVID). I agreed but said we both had to wear masks in the car. Eventually we just decided to stay pretty local bc it was going to be so hot.

@1214mom I forget, do you track your miles?? You should, you are racking them up! How late into the year will you ride??

@abasket, I do not track my miles, and I don’t plan to. I really don’t know exactly how far I’m going - I don’t use a GPS or even a phone app most of the time, but for some places I know, because the trail is 6 miles, for example.

I actually got aggravated with my husband recently and told him riding wasn’t fun with him when he was more worried about the mileage or the time than just enjoying the bike ride. Granted, I do it mostly for exercise, but I don’t want to be “stressed” about it, if I can help it.

I do kind of track my miles and/ or time per week, mostly just by reporting here.

ETA - I used to only ride when weather was 60 degrees or higher. I’m trying for 50, but won’t likely do colder than that. I’m already worrying about what I will do in the winter now that I’ve put our gym membership on hold. Likely a lot more walking and indoor bike riding I guess.

^^^ Just curious! I don’t get consumed by tracking but find it fun to see it accumulate. I do set 6 month goals and I like seeing how close I can get!

You won’t find me worrying about timing - I have a general pace for any activity - sometimes it’s a little faster or sometimes a little slower!

I drove out to the Bay and ran the 2.5 mile trail loop out there twice around. I was surprised by my pace. Unexpectedly strong. I really think all those glute ham raises are helping improve my running. I thought about a 3rd loop, but I know tomorrow’s training will be a big “leg day.”

Just get good kit. I would ride at 30 as long as the roads were dry. 50 for me used to mean short sleeves and shorts LOL (not so much now in the Gulf). Long finger gloves, hat under your helmet, multiple very light layers (very light, some cycling jackets are too heavy) and most importantly wool socks and shoe covers (this can be as simple socks with the ends cut off for your cleats). Mostly it is about your head and ears, your hands and your feet. I would just get warmer fleecy lined leggings and pull over my good shorts. Bike kit for women is very overpriced. Shop off season sales.
If you are cold, ride harder? (easy if you live in the mountains, hopeless if you are in the flatland).

It’s Monday. And it’s hot and sticky and we are heading into August. Normally, I joke about wanting to be in a coma for August, but now that it could happen… I won’t joke about such things.

Rough run, but I was amazed at the end that I didn’t quit. Lifting was better. chest/tris with HIIT at the end I worked hard. I was supposed to up my weight on the chest exercises, but my hexagonal dumbbells only go to 40s. I don’t like using plated ones, so I did 12 reps instead of 10. Finished with abs.

We checked younger S into his apartment yesterday. It is really nice, especially for the price. He will move for real in a few weeks, but we really needed to get out of town. It was a nice day, but we didn’t get home until 9pm. That made it harder to come back to work. I do have tomorrow morning off since I’m skipping the mandatory supervisor “safety” meeting. I know they will have the chairs exactly spaced 6’ apart, but sitting in a room of 50 people for 2 hours unmasked just isn’t good for me mentally. And our cases jumped 8% yesterday and have doubled in 2 weeks… But I like to be a “team player,” so skipping is messing with me mentally as well. poops.

I honestly don’t understand why your workplace would have that king of meeting “live”. That just isn’t happening in this environment. I’m glad you aren’t going!

4.5 miserable miles this morning. Just too many miles on these legs the last few months and it’s too hot. Less than 10% to go to the finish line, though.

@ClassicMom98 it the admin/management at your place of employment who are not setting up success for “team players” by not setting or enforcing more PPE. You need more of the 50 people team to be like you - sitting it out!

I worked from home today and managed to get a little over an hour in on my bike, early this morning before it got too hot.

Does anyone else think this summer is hotter and more humid than others in recent history? My husband said it’s not true, but I don’t remember it being so oppressive the last couple of years.

LOL @1234mom . My husband and I had the exact same conversation. He says this is pretty normal and it’s KILLING me! I’m wondering if part of it is that I’m not in an office building most of the day this summer!

@1214mom here in Ohio I would say we had a cool start to “summer” - we didn’t even turn any AC on until mid June - BUT since then, we have hit 90+ so, so many days!

Ha! I always think it’s the worst ever. But H did say that he heard something about this year shaping up to be the hottest on record. And I’ve seen something like almost every year in the last 5-10 are in the top 10. But that is also worldwide. Who knows.

I’m just flat out miserable all of the time for months. It feels like I’m in hell every day. Just some days I’m in a more inner circle. And by August, I’ll be sitting on Satan’s lap. We get real chummy this time of year.

==Knock on wood==

I think Chicagoland has not had it too bad this summer. I start to complain when it gets to the mid-high 80s. When it gets Into the 90s with suffocating humidity? Ugh.

We are fortunate to live close to Lake Michigan. It can be a good ten degrees cooler here versus just a short 7-8 miles west in the next suburb over.

We do use the central air, but most days we get by with turning on the whole house fan at night and pulling in the cooler air.

I train in the basement, and of course, it’s cooler down there.
