We took a quick trip (by car) to the midwest to see MIL so I have not logged on here several days. Sorry, I missed 63 new posts!
That said, I did some running there. On Friday I ran 3 miles at 10:13 pace which is fast for me. It was hot and humid which is not my weather so that made it all the better. On Sunday I ran a virtual 10K, not at that pace but not a bad one either. Again, heat and humidity were awful.
I felt good about both runs. I have been making a real effort these last 4 months mostly on my own. I do run with the small group on Saturdays, but just started on that in June. Occasionally run with another friend who lives close by, but despite missing my running programs and larger running group and practicing yoga via zoom, I have stuck it out. I know that while I will not very likely ever be a really impressive athlete I am committed and dedicated.
Back home now so back to the usual routine tomorrow.
I think it is hotter and more humid this year, but maybe it’s because we have had a very long string of 90+ days (central Virginia). I am on the tennis court most days and it’s been challenging to hydrate enough.
Did my virtual Big 10 10K this morning representing my alma mater, Indiana. I did NOT wear the hideous plastic shirt, though. I put it on afterwards for a picture. Certainly not a fast 10K, but it’s done! Warm and humid, even with a 6:30 am start. Sort of a fun weekday thing to do in the morning, though. I went to the path to do this thing. Voted afterwards next door at the library, in all my sweaty Big 10 glory!
I went kayaking 3 of the last 4 days, and walked each of the last two days. The kayaking was wicked windy so this was my functional arm workout. I would much rather be doing this than inside with weights.
I am still recovering from my weight jump last week, but the key point is to stay active and focus on the health/conditioning benefits.
Gripe gripe gripe- here I am again with heat and humidity complaints. Rough one for me this morning- 4.1 miles with lots of short walking breaks. 99% humidity here. I think we might be getting a little break in a few days. It was really awful this morning and I didn’t get out until almost 7. I need to do better with that.
I’ve been doing indoor biking for most of the last couple of hours. Started about 8:30, but I’m only going to “claim” about 2.5 hours.
I have been doing reading for work while biking (and working up a big sweat), so I get to count the time as telework. How’s that for multi-tasking
Posting a couple days worth of exercise here. It’s a de-load week, so volume is less and, boy, I sure need it.
Monday, I cleaned and front squatted. Core work was accumulating time holding a D-ball (heavy object), L-sit on rings and weighted v-ups.
Late work out last night, since the family and I went to the beach for an outing. BTW, in our area, it seems like we’re getting almost 100% mask compliance. Anyway, strength program was strict press, push press and push jerk. The HIIT was alternating high volume push presses and jerks and steps up holding KB’s.
A new gym member, an “old guy” (48) asked my age. I don’t know if it’s a compliment or an insult.
Also, one of my regular gym buddies (male) asked me if he looks fat. I answered, no, but your butt looks big.
@abasket As my gym has grown in membership, though still very small by 24/Anytime/Crunch standards, the gym has picked up several bodybuilding and physique competitors, who spend quite a lot of time in front of the mirrors posing.
So, yes, we do have plenty of vain males and females at our gym. Personally, I eschew looking at the mirror (I’m no spring chicken anymore anyway) and was an opponent of adding them in the first place. But to grow membership, this is what the owners decided to do.
I’ve never been much of a “mirror” kinda person all my life and the lack of mirrors was one of the BIG positives of joining a CF gym way back when.
Now one of the positives of my current gym being predominantly bodybuilders, physique competitors and power lifters is that I have pretty much free range on the cardio equipment and the more CF-oriented equipment.
I’m sure most of the membership looks at me in disgust.
Yep, but I took a day off and slept in. And now I’m driving (riding) home from the big city with a piece of Oreo dream cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory that will be consumed when I get home. It is H’s bday. Tomorrow I’ll get back at it, hopefully with a sweeter attitude.
@ClassicMom98, what did you have for dinner?
One of my favorite dinners at CCF is Louisiana Chicken Pasta. I think it has well over 2,000 calories.
And they have a chocolate hazelnut cheesecake that’s to die for. And a key lime, and I can’t remember what else. We have one within 10 minutes of where we live, but we don’t go there very often now that the kids are gone.
Every Thanksgiving we get a bunch of GCs though, and you get 2 free slices of cheesecake for each $25 GC. We give them to the kids in their stockings.
Now of course I want CCF cheesecake.
Ha! We didn’t do dinner there. That was Jimmy Johns. I’m not ready for a long in house dining excursion. We just got it to go. But I usually get their grande burrito or something like that. And yeah, my meal without cheesecake is usually over 2000 calories. Good thing we don’t have one in town.
I’m laughing because last night on our family text thread all the talk was about Cheesecake Factory cheescake - which none of us have had in a few years! There is not even one anywhere near us.
2.5 mile run this morning, 2.7 mile walk this evening. No cheesecake except in my dreams.
