I understand the need for power in exercising.
I found a bike to use so I can start training!! It belongs to a friend who says I can keep it as long as I need. My plan is to start training outside once I get it tuned up. A local bike shop owner has been really helpful. He’ll tune up my friend’s bike and thinks he might be able to get me a used bike that I was hoping to buy new. My biggest worry right now is getting up early. I am a night owl–I always get 7-8 hours of sleep, but I go to bed anywhere from 11:30 to 1:00 am. Right now, early is the best way to beat the heat. Getting up to exercise at 7am or 8 am sounds painful, but I’m going to bite the bullet and do it.
I took the day off today. It’s tough to do, but I did.
Back home and back to the usual. Yoga on Tuesday and Thursday, 5 mile run Wednesday morning and 3 mile treadmill speed workout this morning (it’s pouring so I wasn’t wanting an outside run anyway).
The yoga studio starts in person classes next week. They are restricted to 6 students and have a whole bunch of rules. All classes will still be live streamed anyway. It appears as if the 3 classes I take are live stream only which is fine by me.
^^^Wonder if those 6 spots will fill up fast???
Today was light. Yoga and some core. Tomorrow will be more regular, I hope.
I miss my yoga studio. It closed 2 years ago after Michael, but it was not doing well anyway. We are not a yoga type city. A good class would have 6 people!
My yoga studio is opening next week too. Ten spaces—state of the art cleaning, according to the email. You have to bring your own props. As long as classes are via Zoom, I will do that. I would try an outdoor class, if it was in a dedicated space. I go to one studio that has outdoor classes on the patio of an art gallery. I don’t want to do yoga on bluestone—doesn’t sound great. My other studio built a wooden structure next to the indoor studio. That seems more doable although I haven’t been there.
@abasket I know that in my favorite studio filling up the spots quickly would totally depend on the instructor. There’s always a waiting list for the really good instructors.
IDK - it will be interesting to hear if the slots fill up. Two of my three regular classes are sunrise classes and there is a core group of about 15 regulars, but many of us are over 50 (and more than a few of us are 60+). Not sure of the comfort level there.
The women from my larger running group have a weekly Sunday morning zoom meet up, but they are trying something different this Sunday- in person yoga. The group is meeting at an outside pavilion and will be led by one of the people who has recently completed her teacher training. I’m still a maybe - would like to go, but Sunday is usually my sleep in day. Not that I sleep past 7:30!
Just wanted to report back, @sushiritto .
I started using the DB’s on the bench as you suggested. It became clear immediately that you are correct–I can’t seem to keep my elbows close-in doing a pushup, and I can control that using DB’s because of the position and because I am using fairly light weights while I practice that motion.
Much better.
@orangepurple I’m glad I could be of some help.
It’s still a deload week for me, so essentially I’ve been doing just HIIT’s (CF calls them metcons) and core. No upper echelon strength has been programmed this week. I needed the break too.
I started with light-ish TNG (touch n go) power snatches. The HIIT today was roughly 13-14 minutes of handstand push-ups, power snatches and pull-ups. Core work was intervals of rowing, toes-to-bar and weighted GHD sit-ups.
So… my stomach felt a bit “off” last night and still does this morning. Not doing the 10 mile run. I may try a treadmill run later if I feel better. Bummer…
We were supposed to go on a bike ride this morning and meet my son and his GF to celebrate husband’s bday. Looks like showers near where they live.
We may be able to alter our plans and head towards a place where percentages are lower, but it may wind up being an inside biking day for me.
I had my second shingles shot yesterday and so far so good on feeling ok - just some arm soreness when I woke up. 4.1 mile walk this morning - the rain literally came down 5 minutes after I walked in the door!
If the rain keeps up I’ll do some miles on the indoor bike later on.
Thanks for the reminder. H is on the waiting list for the shot. He hasn’t asked about it in months though. We probably should ask the next time we are in Target.
I got back at it today. Ran to the gym, stairmonster for 30 min (3-4 people on the floor today) and ran home. All I can do is pray this is the worst it will be for the next few weeks. I would have been drier if I had stepped out of the shower in my clothes. Then the Barree Blend total body (still not digging it), some core and 30 min of yoga.
I’ve been staying active losing and am now about 15-18 lbs away from my goal. Not having access to a gym (it’s open, but I have no interest in taking that risk) however, means I’ll have a lot of body fat to cut once things go back to normal. I’m mostly walking the dog, riding my mountain bike, running, and hiking. I miss swimming, but that too will have to wait. Hope everyone is avoiding pandemic weight gain.
^ great job @itsgettingreal21 ! The pandemic is making things more of a challenge but it sounds as if you are really doing great.
Today, I worked on hang squat cleans to begin with and then the HIIT was a 1-mile run and then 10 rounds of: 7 thrusters, 7 pull-ups and 7 burpees. Oy, that was a long one today. Core work was a 3x10 of glute ham raises.
@itsgettingreal17 wow that is great! Do you mean you will need to tone up at some point?
Felt well enough to run on the treadmill this morning. 4 miles while streaming our church service on the big screen in the basement. Have no idea why it took me so long to think of this- “Body and Soul” workout. H rode the bike along side of me for a win-win.
I rode my indoor bike for 2 hours yesterday (I may get a better work-out on it than I do when I’m riding outside.
Today I rode about 25 miles with the husband and “kids.”
We stopped and had breakfast outside, planned for husband’s bday celebration. Burrata avocado toast was quite tasty. We also had a really good pie, and son’s GF said “this is like summer in a pie.” It was 4 berries, warmed with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. We split it 4 ways (it was 12 bucks - plenty for all).
It makes me sad to post on this thread
