Today’s OHP looked good on the video. Only 61# for sets of 5. I was barefoot & it was obvious when I mis-grooved & got on my toes.
Rest of the session was easy — which was the point — mental break.

I ended up taking the dog to the vet bc he was due for his annual exam anyways.
He’s on antibiotics for the week as a precaution.
He is getting old man eyes, his teeth are bad, his heart murmur is the same and I’m sure she will call to tell me his kidney numbers continue to worsen. We think he’s 14-15 yo.
But!!! He is in good spirits, and I’m not ready for him to leave this earth!

One of the lifters I follow on IG is packed & ready to evacuate when given the order. Somewhere in CA. She posted pictures and it was scary.
head is somewhat better today. I do think my eye twitch is allergy related too. It eased up for a bit, but came back with a vengeance Monday. Since I tweaked my AT yesterday, I just drove to the gym and rode the bike. It was raining anyway, so it worked well. 75 min and it felt pretty good. Then I did a legs HIIT 50-50 video. The HIIT portion I kept easy on the AT - focused mostly on the squatting down portion vs jumping. Finished with Core. Not a bad morning, but oh my this work day is DRAGGING! zzzzzzzz…
I tweaked my lower back this weekend so have been taking it easy. It’s OK if I do something like ride the stationary bike so I did that for more than an hour today while watching the US Open.
This will be my annual PSA about surviving the shorter darker days.
Even if you don’t think you have full blown S.A.D., using a dawn simulator alarm or light box or negative air ionizer can make a big difference in your baseline mood and energy level and sleep quality.
The web site I recommend is www.cet.org Center for Environmental Therapeutics.
There is a wealth of research-based information on the web site, as well as product recommendations.
I’ve been using a very bright (halogen) lamp attached to a timer/dimmer “sunrise” box for years. (This particular product is no longer offered at CET).
I have a light box as well, & used to sit in front of it at breakfast. I have since retired the light box and replaced it with a Negative Air Ionizer – which I run all night while I sleep.
Most people are unaware that a NAI and a Dawn Simulator Light are proven to be very effective and are passive. You do not have to devote time during your busy day to sit in front of either one. Easy compliance!
If you or someone you care about suffers thru the winter months, please forward the CET web site! It’s a great organization!
Many people find it helpful to get ahead of the season and begin treatment in September, rather than waiting until we are in the thick of it.
Checking in. Yesterday, my phone died. It’s 4 years old and the charging port has been fritzy for about 6 months. I think I just sweat on it too much, too often. You had to hold the plug in just so or it would not connect. But no more. I managed to salvage a decent workout with my ipad. It’s on my S’ apple id though, so I couldn’t download the app and had to stream over the data/Safari. Whatever. It got done. Shoulders and arms and core.
I got tired of my headache and took off sick at lunch. I may have stopped at Verizon on the way home. I was prepared for a horrid experience, but lo and behold it was amazing. One of my former swimmers (older S’ age) was in charge of helping me. Easiest purchase and set up ever, and it was nice catching up. Woo hoo! Went home and napped for 2 hours. Headache is somewhat better, but it’ll be there at some level until the freeze comes. I need to move out to CO apparently.
This morning I finished the LIIFT 4. But first I ran to the gym which felt really good. The stairmonster felt the opposite, so I slunk to the bike to finish up. But then the run home was super strong too. Bizarre. The final workout was a 30 min HIIT workout. I think I did better on the push-up parts. I liked those better than the jumping ones. Now I need to figure out what to do next. I want to redo “The Work” but I want to finish it the week before Thanksgiving. Must go check the calendar to see what works.
I’m feeling sad today because the air quality is so bad. I would be doing a class over zoom this morning and I just feel like it is unwise now, even inside. I so wish we could go to the air-conditioned gym to work out. We don’t have air conditioning here, nor do any of my neighbors or friends.
I have two air purifiers on order but neither has arrived. I don’t really expect our inside air is that great. I took the dog for a walk earlier but kept it short, wore an N95 (one of a few hoarded carefully since fires two years ago) and tried to go slowly so I wouldn’t breathe too much.
Haha one area of real progress this pandemic season probably is my breathing–exercising so much more and really working on breathing, doing mindful breathing exercises for stress, and some yoga. It has started to become much more habitual for me to check how I am breathing and take deep, slow breaths. And now I feel like I should try to minimize breathing while the air quality is so incredibly bad. So I’m skipping my workout.
So far this week, I’ve been really good about remembering to video my working sets.
Pin presses still feel really weird. I re-watched a couple tutorials before getting to it today. I’m keeping the weight on the low side to give myself more practice on form.
It’s still very cool and damp here. My thoughts turned to “Do I need a space heater for the basement this year?”
I’ve got a couple filet mignons in the fridge that I’m going to crush this weekend. I love steak.
Just a short run (2 miles), followed by a 1.6 mile walk. Walked another 2 miles midday (I had a day off), to the library and back. Then H wanted to walk when he got home, so we went an additional 3 miles. 21K+ steps for the day. I am done.
@ClassicMom98 - I once had a wonky charging problem on my iphone, and based on some google searching I realized the culprit was dust/lint built up
in the charging port. The hint suggested clearing with compressed air, but I think that I was able to (VERY carefully) dig it out with a bent paper clip or tweezers.
@Midwest67 The air is bad here, ranging from “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” to ‘Unhealthy” to “Very Unhealthy.” While the smoke is nowhere near as bothersome as my allergies can be, I’ve dialed back the intensity of my workouts just to be safe.
Thursday’s are my run or rest days, but yesterday, for the first time in a VERY long time, I used our home treadmill. I ran for 35 mins. We actually have had a couple Honeywell HEPA air purifiers in our house for years, so they’re typically being used anyway. I ran one while running.
Today, just like normal workout days, I was at the gym. We’re still outside, but we can rotate one at a time and use the inside equipment. I try to stay away from rotating since it bogs me down. CF is mostly timed events, so waiting to use the inside equipment is not good.
The wind picked up a little this afternoon, but I still wore my mask the bulk of the time today. I worked hard enough to NOT have to gasp for air with the mask on. Just enough where breathing was heavy.
Today’s workout was a 21-15-9 of strict pull-ups, strict toes to bar and ring dips. So 21 of each, then 15 of each and finally 9 of each. Again, just fast enough to not have to gasp for air while wearing my mask. That was all outside work. Then I had to join a short rotation to use the rope climb and combine that movement with something known as the “bear complex.”
After all the bar work, my grip was mostly gone, which made the rope climbs difficult. I assume that was the intended stimulus. I finished up with 5 mins (cool down) on the air bike.
I can’t wait for the air to get back to normal. Dialing back the intensity of my workouts really…sucks. There’s just no other word for it. Sorry.
Gosh I am sorry for all those affected by the fires and smoke. Though I have trouble breathing most mornings in the summer, at least it isn’t toxic. Stay safe and i sympathize with being bummed about lost workouts.
@colorado_mom I tried all of those cleaning techniques several times. No luck. I’m pretty sure it’s water damage. Every morning for over half the year, my fuel belt looks like it was dunked and not wrung out of a bucket full of water. My phone often got water inside the waterproof case and the keyboard would be fritzy until I opened it up and would dry it out. I am hoping that the plastic bag I now put my phone in will help this one.
Lately, my work outs generally are 2 hours of active time. My aerobic portion is 75-80 min, but 15-20 min is my walk/jog warm up and cool down. My videos are around 45 min. But then there is the wasted time walking to/from the shed, getting the shed gym set up, bathroom and water breaks, stretching and resetting mentally between the two parts, etc. so it is more like 2.5 hours.
@ClassicMom98 wowser, that is a lot of time on a nearly daily basis. Maybe you are wearing yourself out?? Or with that much fitness time would it be useful to talk to a nutritionist to make sure you’re getting adequate nourishment for your body to maintain during and after exercise???
Yesterday I had a lovely 5k run, great time (for me). It was my ideal conditions - 53 degrees, cloudy, maskless most of the run. This morn we had a lonnnnng call trying to get my dad’s microphone working for Zoom, no early start. Twenty degrees hotter, Saturday crowd so mostly wearing a mask. As expected, much slower… but I DID IT
@ClassicMom98 Is it all done solo? Do you ever work out with someone else? Or is being alone the whole point?
These days I like to run alone to be alone, but I swim with other people and use the transition time to chat with someone who is not H. I was walking with friends, but schedules have changed with the start of school. And it is getting dark so much earlier.
I’ve been busy with family stuff, but am running and swimming.
Like @Lizardly - I enjoy running alone. I also enjoy my Saturday group runs. I admit that I miss my yoga group in person, but am thankful I can practice from home.
Rowed 15 minutes this morning, than walked 4.5 miles. Yoga is in about an hour.
We are on vacation in Asheville NC. I thought about am@ClassicMom98 as we were driving through VA.
We planned to do a fair amount of biking while here, but my son hit the tracks wrong today and fell fairly badly, and won’t be able to ride for at least a couple of days. We did go on a six or so mile hime after that. Pretty good day given it was supposed to be pretty rainy.
Ouch @1214mom ! Hope your son is not too sore! Glad you were able to get away.
I walked 5.3 miles this morning then spent a few hours doing outside painting today. My arms and wrist got a work out! Up and down that ladder may have faked out my fitbit that I was doing stairs! Trying to take advantage of these late summer days to get some sprucing up done!
