@1214mom I hope you are enjoying Asheville! I’m not sure what route you took, but if you were on an interstate, you didn’t go near me. If you took the non-interstate route, you passed right by me, but I’d guess you took the interstate. 81 is a pretty drive - if you are lucky enough to do it on a less heavy truck volume day. Those truckers can be dangerous on those hills.
Just a quick check in for me. yes, I do all my workouts solo and yes they are long. But TBH, my workouts nowadays are less intense and easier than at any point in my life, probably since the pre-high school days. This is what my body is used to. My workouts and naps are my favorite time of the day - the time I can chill and be alone in my thoughts.
Today is my bday. We “celebrated” over the weekend, mostly with food. H tried his best, and I appreciated it. But, I was just in a blue mood for a lot of it. I feel trapped, and I don’t like feeling like that. I am very much like a cat. I love to nap and curl up in a little ball and hide under the covers alone. But, I don’t like shut doors and feeling trapped. I do get off at noon today - and will nap! That is good. But I learned something weird this morning. I work in an office of 10 people, and we share a space with another 5 people (different dept/division). 2 of the people we hired in the last year have the same bday as me. 3/15 have the same bday? what are the odds? (I’m sure someone here could calculate, lol)
Happy Birthday @ClassicMom98 !
Happy Birthday! Next year a party for you three!
Happy Birthday @ClassicMom98 !!!I I hope you had some delicious eats!!!
@Midwest67 must have got all the sleep I DIDN’T get!!! Awful night of sleep which doesn’t happen often for me (thank goodness)
Got up and did 5.2 miles on the Airdyne because it was too dark to head out - then 1.5 brisk walk after that. I’m getting ready to go out for another couple mile walk shortly.
Hi, group. I’m learning my way around CC and would like to join in with all you avid exercisers. Happy Birthday @ClassicMom98 . Nice to meet you!
I do a mix of run/walk and cycling. I haven’t braved the gym again, so I’m relying on a bike trainer in my house, but try to get outside for my run/walk. I do a little strengthening work but not enough.
This group seems very dedicated and I admire your progress. I am quite consistent, but some days the motivation just isn’t there.
Welcome!
I would not underestimate the power of consistency.
“Even slow (progress) is fast (will make significant changes with time)”
Thanks @Midwest67 . I used to run more and have done a few half marathons, but got tired of the various injuries, so backed off. I had a spin class I really liked at my gym, but the protocol right now is a little sketchy.
Welcome @HighTide2020 ! We have all levels and variety here - we just like supporting each other - through the good days, bad days and occasionally (knock on wood) injuries!
Welcome @HighTide2020. I think we all struggle with motivation at times and it’s been tougher than usual this year. I find this thread helpful.
Welcome @HighTide2020. I’m a “light” member but enjoy reading all the posts. Usually I run 5k a few times a week at a lovely local lake trail. But now that I am retired I aspire to someday also riding my bike before/after instead of driving the 1.5 miles to the trail.
@ClassicMom98 Happy belated b-day.
@HighTide2020 Welcome!
Sunday was a rest day for me. I did take SushiDog to my trail run area by the Bay and we walked up and down and all around for a long time. But that doesn’t count as exercise.
Back to “work” today at the gym. First, I hit a heavy double with my front squat. Then, I did 5 sets of pausing “inverse presses,” followed by 5 sets of 5 weighted dips. And I finished with a 20-min HIIT of rowing, light high rep front squats and BURPEES.
Oh, and it’s still red zone here for air, but I wear a mask. Honestly the air doesn’t seem so bad, again.
Yes, welcome! I appreciate the different levels of fitness and hearing about the different activities. The stuff I don’t do, crossfit and weights, is the most interesting.
Any “light” or "light’-wanna-be folks interested in discussion of couch-2-5k and walk/run? That’s how I started running 3 years ago at age 54. I’d love to encourage others.
Since folks are bored during covid… and fall is a nice time to run… I was thinking about starting a new Parent Cafe thread. But we could discuss here if better. Thoughts?
@colorado_mom i think that many participating here did couch to 5k at some point.
If I was voting, I would say separate post, just to see if it could draw in some new blood!
Right now, I walk with purpose and interspersed with running. Seems to work best for me. I’m not one to run races though. Not that there are races to run
Raising hand as a C25K graduate. Started it almost EXACTLY 8 years ago!
I think people know this thread is here but choose not to participate. Here’s an open invite for any lurkers to jump on board!
I have friends who have done C2 5K and C2 10K several times. Even if someone isn’t a beginner, it’s a good way to reset after an injury or time off. From what I’ve heard them discuss, it’s fine to give yourself permission to drop back a day or two or stay on a workout that seems a little hard for you before moving ahead.
I did not do C2 5K but the training program I did was similar and there was a (really fun) 5K at the end. I was fortunate to have this program here, but C2 5K is available everywhere so that’s a great option.
I celebrate any kind of activity- light or not so. I just think it’s important to move and am happy to encourage anyone who needs it (we all need it sometimes!).
I started Week 3 of my new 8-5-2 program.
Today felt E-A-S-Y, which continues to be a mental relief. Form on the OHP is still a bit wonky, but improved. The achiness in my back from the lay back is diminished & I’m trying to perform more of a strict press.
I tried the Spud Pulley system — no complaints — but I like LTEs better. I think I get greater range of motion & more tricep involvement with LTEs.
I made sure to train on an empty stomach today — just a scoop of whey protein isolate in cold black coffee with a tablespoon of sugar — to sip on before & during the session. I had been feeling somewhat nauseous in recent training sessions & I think it was due to eating too close to go time. Zero nausea today.
Volume squats will NOT be fun later this week (five sets of 5!).
I’ve got my eye on Sunday’s hike. Only about an hour away and 12 hilly miles. This leader is fast too, so I’ll be pulling up the rear again!
Is it 5 o’clock yet? I cannot wait to have a tall rum & soda!
I love it that you know your running anniversary! I won’t forget my barbell training anniversary! ?
Anyone else have a fitness or nutrition or wellness milestone or anniversary they celebrate?
