No running here for many days … we had cooler weather and some wildfire smoke …and then invited evacuated friends living with us. But I did some snow shoveling this morn, and I can’t tell you how thrilled we all are to have the snow and very cold weather aiding the firefighters in the mountains.
Rest day for me today. I slept well last night and that feels awesome.
Something new for me is weighing myself once a week. The goal is that I maintain weight, or slowly put on weight.
I can tell my body has been ever so slowly recomposing (ahem, auto-correct, NOT decomposing…although…hmmm…maybe you have a point…). I am more “solid” than I was in 2019.
This week will be a week of heavy doubles and high volume. I’m feeling a little apprehension, but will just get in there and do the thing.
I pulled something in my knee squatting Saturday and it was difficult to go up stairs without a little limp. It was fine hiking those hills yesterday. Body is a weird thing.
@colorado_mom As a lover of RMNP, it’s very hard to see those fires!
We (oldest daughter and I) were supposed to be in Utah this week, hiking. I’m glad we cancelled. The National Parks in southern Utah just got dumped on with snow. There are road closures. It’s going to warm up, but oy, that would have put a damper on our plans. We’ve done that sort of trip before though. Opting for a less busy time of year (Yellowstone in early June) and getting temps around freezing and snow.
I’m having a slightly better mental health week. It really does look like the governor of IL could close us down. So much is out of our hands. In many ways, we are lucky. But, we could also be screwed. Time will tell!
Sending support @Midwest67 the uncertainty is HARD.
I’ve added in 1-2 mornings of strength/core training. This morning a cardio strength training followed by a quick short walk before work. I admit to liking when cardio is paired with strength training as opposed to just straight hand weight work.
It’s always a little jolt to read about activities in different parts of the country that would be a lot less likely here in northern Illinois. Brrrrr!
The past week I’ve done some mellow indoor exercising (and a bit of snow shoveling), but today I got back to the running trail. We had 8 inches of snow on Sunday, but the paved sections were dried from the “solar heating”. I was also able to run on the dirt in the areas that stay more dry, so did an out/back 5k. Alas my knee bothered me a bit, and I decided to walk the last 1km. When I texted about it to my daughter, she replied with clever retort - “Responsible 4k is the new 5k”.
What caught my eye is the decrease in ALM, which why I bolded it.
If you look up the meaning, “appendicular lean mass is a measurement of skeletal strength of lower limbs and is used as a predictive measure of hip fracture.”
We all know that as we age, hip fractures are bad.
