I’m going to have to remember that my wife’s idea of a “quick walk before dinner” means 4 miles
LOL @jmnva06 . Got out the door for 70 minutes walk/run this morning. Looking forward to lighter mornings, even though the end of the day will be dark.
Today’s training was:
Bench 107 x 2 x 3
Pin Press 66 x 5 x 5
Chins with a goal of 16 total reps.
5 - 5 - 4 + 1 nose to bar - 2
Knock on wood — elbows quietly objecting but not screaming.
So happy to be done. Haha!
It was my turn to pick tonight so we did more like 4.25 miles. Planning tomorrow’s walk to outdoor beer garden for dinner.
@jmnva06 - That’s our kind of walk! After our youngest graduated from college, we took our two kids to Europe (first time for them). Walking to Munich beer gardens and enjoying dinner together is a cherished memory.
Yesterday I was resting my knee that was sore at end of Tues run. I did some short Fitness Blender workouts and gardened a bit. Today we delighted in 61 degree weather (after the 8" snow on Sunday, which was admittedly much wanted for the wildfires). I decided it was warm enough to bike to my local lake trail and then had a very lovely run. The crowd was sparse, so I was able to be maskless the majority of the time.
My mom walked/ran in a virtual 5K this morning hoping to motivate her to get back outside. Due to the allergens (she’s where I got mine from), heat and humidity and pandemic she’s been walking inside her house around the house since March. Seriously. She mapped out a mile in her house. Anyhow, 36 min and change. Not bad for 73! (I assume she did do this outside.)
Congrats to your mom @ClassicMom98 !
6.5 mile run in mid thirties temps- felt wonderful! This is my kind of running weather- last weeks humid 61 degrees did not agree with me. A few of us agreed we wish we had waited and ran our MCM 10K today instead! Plus we all got our swag bags this week so the shirts and medals are here.
8 miles with my friend. Did 4 10 minute run straight run stretches and also some shorter ones. That really cuts some time off the distance, it turns out. A hint of all in the air and it was chilly (for her- upper 40s) to start.
Last day of the three week cycle & hardest.
Deadlifts 230 x 2 x 3
Squats 150 x 5 x 5
Lotta mind games today that made it difficult. I just don’t have the discipline of an athlete’s mind.
Tomorrow I will escape to WI & hike. Then it looks like sometime this week I’ll be driving 8 hours to see the kid in grad school. It’s a wellness check & she has agreed to let me visit with the dog.
It’s sure to be a stressful week & I’ll try not to be “that person” who is freaking about missing a week’s worth of training & not being in total control of my meals.
The visit is obviously high priority. Wish us well!
@Midwest67 - Have a great trip. And try not to stress out too much. The key thing is how you exercise/eat 50 weeks a year … not the exception times for family and vacation time.
My workout today was in the yard. It would have been a lovely day for a run, but hubby and I needed to deal with leaves (which he mostly handled with vaccum mulcher) and pruning etc. I am not an avid gardener like my mother (who planted my flowers/shrubs and tended them a few decades). But I do get a lot of satisfaction doing exercise that is actually doing something, besides just improving my health (mental and physical).
Started the day with coaching (~7K steps walking to/from field and wandering around).
Walked a longer path to beer place (3.1 miles) and shorter (2+ miles). Sitting on over 20K steps for the day.
@jmnv06 - That’s great! I think my step count max (when I was tracking steps, before running) was 17k… and that was on vacation/touring.
@colorado_mom : Given how much of my exercise is on soccer fields, I find step count to be great measure of activity
Absolutely - step count is a wonderful measure of activity. I just don’t check stepcount anymore because using other other apps/tracking (mostly MyNetDiary, includes fitness entries). Even with running I probably never again have come close to my 17K steps high water mark, when on a cruise shore excursion in Florence Italy. The streets three are too small for buses, so we walked ALL DAY following our tourguide. Of course it was much less vigorous than the soccer field steps!
Just because I was curious I went and checked my personal best. It is 42.5K steps in one day. It was day 2 of our Hadrian’s Wall walk in 2017 where we went from Newburn to Corbridge.
Been away from the thread a couple days- good work all!
@HighTide2020 , you’re getting in some good mileage! Great progress!
Fall is such an up and down with weather in so many places. It’s like monsoon here today and running would have been a joke but I managed a 4 mile walk. With some sleet of course, when I was at my farthest point from home!
I got an Apple Watch about a month ago but was an advid Fitbiter before that and I LIVED for my step counts. LOL. When I would look at my daily averages over a year (I think it was 2018 or 19) it was almost 16K. I stay pretty active just on my week especially on the weekends and evenings when they are light. Gardening and yard work are great low impact, high movement activities.
I wear an Apple Watch but haven’t been that invested in my total step count. I find if I can get my exercise and calorie rings closed, I’m usually OK on steps. Besides my exercise, I do walk my dog most days unless it’s a hard rain (unusual for here anyway). That helps, although he can be pretty pokey.
I did 4 plus miles walk today, but haven’t been great with exercise this week. I came close to buying an indoor bike trainer for 1200 bucks today, but the bike shop talked me out of it (what’s wrong with this picture :))
My son got the 1200 one, but I think I will do fine with a cheaper one. The one I use now is 27 years old… I’m thinking it’s ok for an upgrade?
Today’s workout plans were completely upended. H and I planned to walk a new route this morning, and it was pouring! So I had to wait until it cleared up to walk. Took a route I’ve done many times, but solo as H was watching his Packers lose by then. Had planned to go to the 261 group late afternoon, but they changed the location and it didn’t work for me so I ended up zooming a class from my yoga studio.
So…not what I planned, but got my activity in.
Tonight’s walk was 4.1 to the Mexican joint (underpass was closed so added some distance) and then 1 mile home. Recognizing that the terrain is totally different this is still 72% of our short day next summer.
Plus, pretty sure there won’t be 4 margaritas between miles 4 and 5 when we walk next summer.
DW’s birthday is next Monday and we are planning a bunch of battlefield hikes.
