Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

I’m still doing my usual. The better weather seems to be agreeing with me. But, oh the flooding we have had the last few years. In 2018 Michael decimated our city and our trail was broken into pieces when two bridges got washed away. We finally got one fixed 1-2 months ago and the other is being fixed now. And while we have had several floods since then, none were that terrible… Until now. Supposedly the river will crest tomorrow higher than it’s ever been. Ugh. Please don’t let the bridges floats away again. Someday I’d like to run the full length of the trail again!

So sorry @ClassicMom98. Is your house/property OK?

@1214mom Yep. We are good. I live 0.5 mile from the river, but almost 200 feet above it. My street is pretty much the ridge line except my house (and the ones on either side) sit 10-15 feet above the road. The only water coming to my land is from the sky. Should my house flood, the world has much bigger problems.

I got a 4 mile walk in this afternoon, and did a fair amount of walking as I braved the mall.
I gather a new iphone is out today. There must have been 30 people waiting outside at the Apple store. (I was not one of them).
I did have to get my husband 1 new Beats Pro ear bud, though. He lost just 1. Turns out I could order just one through Apple.

I didn’t know you could order just one ear bud!
Did an hour walk/run (I think more run than walk- the shift has begun!) Wore some older shoes that I think need to be retired. I’m going to start keeping better track of my mileage on the shoes.

@HighTide2020 , @MomofWildChild who started this thread was the one who taught me about shoe life! They always still look good on the outside but it’s the sole/foot support that dies! The unseen!

5k run this afternoon. Worked on some interval running.

I went back and read the earlier pages (not all of them) of this thread. Where did @MomofWildChild go? Sounds like she did a lot of running.

Bench 88 x 8 x 3 (felt great!)

Pin Press 68 x 5 x 3

Chins (goal 20 reps)
4 + forehead to bar - 4 - 4 - 3 - 4 - 1

Done! Dinner time! Woot!

@MomofWildChild is a competitive runner with a long history of dedication to running. She has had some sponsorships with apparel companies. She is alive and well but was a casualty of CC rules and regulations. LONG time poster. Very wise and very fun! She brought a lot of knowledge and encouragement. We try to keep this thread going because of her (and because we are selfish and love the thread!!!)

They’re very rare nowadays, but a deadlift PR this evening. And few Friday night cheers from my gym buddies.

I’m surprised anyone was even paying attention in a “sea” of 500-700 lb deadlifts from the regular “Arnold’s.” But then I’m not a powerlifter either.

The 12- min AMRAP was a combination of jump rope and light load deadlifts, hang power cleans and push jerks.

@HighTide2020 - It’s good idea to keep track of shoe age/miles. For me, running shoes eventually show their wear on the soles (outer heel area, especially on right shoe). Last week I made the mistake of wearing an old “beater” pair when anticipating sloppy mud on the trail. That was a mistake. I had knee pain the next day, probably due to worn out cushioning.

On the chance that MomofWildChild still reads the thread … Best Wishes!

I don’t think the bridges washed away! The river didn’t get near as high as predicted. The trail is still under 10 feet of water, but better than 16.

This morning was weird. I didn’t feel like working out which is odd lately because it’s the best part of my day. I slunk over to the gym and didn’t want to run but made myself start promising I only had to go 10 min before I could go inside to ride the stairmonster. I wound up feeling decent and went for a lot longer. Then I only needed 15 min on the stairmonster. I didn’t want to do that either but got started and wound up going for 25 strong minutes. Slunk home to lift. Did not feel like starting, but did and would up doing well there too. Weird. But I’m glad I did it.

I may be putting up my Xmas decorations  this is my happy time and I’d like for them to be up when the kids come home for Thanksgiving. Younger S will be home next weekend so this is the time I have to do it.

Happy weekend everyone! I started out with a planned 6 mile run with my friends. It turned out to be a 4 mile run with a 2 mile walk, because a few people weren’t feeling it today. That’s OK.

I had to laugh at myself this morning. I have lately bemoaned the fact that there is not really a race distance between a half and full marathon. I would like to work my way up. Well there is a 1775 race here in March which is usually an automatic qualifier for the Marine Corps Marathon and my friends and I are planning to register. I didn’t even mind when they announced this week that it will be virtual in 2021. They also said no automatic qualifying (disappointing, but I get why). I was just excited about 17.75 miles. Um…one of my friends pointed out that it is 1775K - so like 11 miles. Duh! Still going to run it though.

@ClassicMom98 - my tradition is to keep the pumpkins/fall stuff out until after Thanksgiving, but I know that a lot of people want to decorate for Christmas right now. I say- do what works for you especially this year. We need the cheer when we can get it.

Good workout @ClassicMom98 ! That’s funny about the 1775K @FallGirl . Got out with my friend for a 90 minute run/walk in my new New Balance shoes, which felt great- no pains or groans.

@FallGirl they do have 25K and 30K races. There aren’t many but I’ve done a 30K in winston salem before. And I think I’ve seen 25Ks in your area before.

@FallGirl - I noticed this race on FB ad the other day. It includes something they call “Elk Double” (half marathon plus 5k). Of course at 7500’ elevation, it probably would feel more like a full marathon. Even if Covid goes away, I’m unlikely to sign up even though I do all my 5k running at about 5000’.

After a day off, I ran again yesterday afternoon. Due to perfect combo of weather (46, sunny) and layered clothing I was able to do 2 lake loops, so 10K running. At the end I felt a bit funny with shorts and sleeveless top when some of the walkers were wearing down jackets, but with fewer people I did like being able to often be maskless.

Thanks, I’m going to look into some of those 25K and 30K races.

I planned to ride my stationary bike today and tomorrow during football, but both my college and NFL teams have byes this week! BOOOOOOO. My allergies are killing me so I really need to stay inside.

Today felt like crap.

Deadlifts 182.5 x 8 x 3 (uff)

Squats 152.5 x 5 x 3 (felt so heavy! but I did not miss any reps)

Hiking tomorrow with a WI club. Good leader & I like the hike location. It will be good to be outside. Hope the rain holds off bc it’s going to be 40-45.

@Midwest67 what is the restaurant situation in your area (Chicago area I believe and your line of work)???

Hope you get your hike in dry!

Strength training video this morning, then a nearly 4 mile walk once it warmed up.
