I’ve been trying to cut out my evening snack a few times a week. It’s definitely a habit and even if I’m not hungry I often have it. After a couple of weeks of holding back, not so hard!!!
April/May showers bring GRASS CUTTING - another form of exercise for me this time of year! Ours takes about an hour to do so definitely count it as exercise!
Because of my bruised foot (but nothing broken, according to X-rays), I haven’t been working out in the same way. I have been doing arm weights and riding the terribly uncomfortable stationary bike. I’ve been doing 20-30 minute bursts throughout the day. Still able to drop a bit of weight. After 14 weeks of IF, I am down 12.6 pounds. I can’t wait to see my trainer at the end of the month for my DXA. I think she’s gonna be shocked!
Last week, I went for my annual physical. Most of my bloodwork was great, but my cholesterol went up. Boooooo. My HDL is good and the ratio is good, but my overall number is too high because of too much LDL. That and I was Vitamin D deficient, which in a way is surprising but in a way isn’t as allergies have been bad for months so I have been staying inside.
But the thing that kind of ticked me off is he offered me a drug to get off any weight plateau I might reach. One reason I love this doc, as I said above when talking UTIs, is he doesn’t dole out drugs. I was really surprised. Maybe he thinks I’ve “earned” it or something and doesn’t want me to get discouraged? He told me the nurse who took my vitals weighed 205 until she took this drug. I wouldn’t have believed it. She was really thin. I mean SLIM. Anyway, his weight goal for me is 10 pounds lighter than my trainer’s goal for me. I think I’m right in between.
My spouse and I went back East for my D’s college graduation last Wednesday. Thursday morning, I worked at a local CF gym, but Friday and Saturday, there were too many all day grad festivities going on, so while one rest day is normal, I had two in row, which for me, is unheard of. And yesterday, was a travel odyssey, because our morning flight back to the SF Bay Area was canceled.
After scrambling to find flights (we originally had a direct flight), we had some long waits in the two airports. Feeling tremendously guilty, for taking two days rest in a row, I proceeded to do some “Murph” prep in the airport at our gate.
No weight vest, but 30 handstand pushups (no pull-up bars in the airport-go figure), 200 pushups and 300 squats. Plus, I almost ran the entire length of the terminal twice, two round trips. No idea how long it was. It was reasonably bright and early, so the airport wasn’t that packed. Of course, there were a few strange glances.
This evening, a LOOOONG workout for sure is planned.
The doctor doesn’t even know IF, when and at how much you will plateau at, and he offered you a drug to help reduce weight?
Again, “slim” doesn’t necessarily mean healthy. What’s her body composition and bone density? There are healthy individuals who aren’t “slim.” And they’re healthier than the “slim” individuals.
Well, I had told him that I started IF because of my yearlong plateau so I brought it up first, but after five years of hard work and dropping more than 60 pounds and knowing his history I was taken aback. After five years, I clearly am not into quick fixes.
You have done a fantastic job with your IF efforts. Actually I’m shocked that the doctor wasn’t more impressed by that. Yea, no need for quick fix meds here.
Per high-ish cholesterol, was the Triglyceride number a factor? I once ate steak night before my chol test, and the Tri and LDL numbers and 238 total (AFTER I had started running and eating better for a year) were much higher than the prior test and the five subsequent tests (some at doctor’s office, some at Quest self testing).
I’ve just been doing my thing. Lots of biking and walking, and some pickleball for fun. I’ve only had 2 lessons but met with some people to “play” (just hit the ball over tennis net and try to keep it going) for 90 minutes today.
A friend gave me a compliment recently - she said that since I retired, she’s been walking more, which lowered her cholesterol… I’ll take the win :). I also had the lowest cholesterol I’ve had in years when I had a test recently.
Wait - that’s “back East?” I thought that meant on the east coast? Obviously makes no difference, just funny. When I lived in CA (decades ago, but I was born and spent 13 years there) we would talk about relatives living “ back east” and that meant east coast.
My nieces and nephews went to Michigan, my mil said she was never so cold as sitting at that graduation. Including my daughter’s which was 45 and rain.
Sitting in the stadium on Saturday, it was definitely cold. Early on, I was shivering, but the sun came out a little towards Noon, but that only helped a little. However, I’m never that well-prepared for cold weather.
Triglycerides were in normal range. My A1C was the best it’s ever been, and my glucose was the lowest it’s been since I started tracking it in 2017. Overall, good. I’m just irritated that everything didn’t go down!
GO BLUE!!! Congrats to your daughter - sorry the weather wasn’t a little more pleasant this past weekend!!!
@Youdon_tsay I’d be taken back if my doc suggested a weight loss drug as well. As @sushiritto said, WHY are we in 2022 still focusing on the # on a scale and not the progress made with fitness and health and nutrition!!!
It takes time, I’m down to the last pound or two for the last 3 months, at least I didn’t gain weight over the winter.
But I notice if I eat cabbage and fish, I tend to lose weight. Summer is coming, so that’s the incentive.
Today we get to play pickle ball again, last week we had so many things to do we weren’t able to play at all.
We played another 30 minutes of pickle ball, this time my husband noticed I was more agile, running from side to side easily. I think the floor exercises I do in the evening is starting to pay off, I can now squat easily, no using hands to get up. I’m trying to do more sit ups, slowly working up to a nice core and abs muscle.
