I played pickleball for 90 minutes today. Watch gave me over 400 calories, so I counted that as my exercise for the day. First time I’ve tracked it and felt like I got enough exercise (I’m a very new player).
I like to play more competitively, I’m good at hitting the ball, my pickle ball instructor thought so too, but I can’t run very fast, if I can partner with somebody who can run, I wouldn’t mind enter some kind of competition for beginners. I think it gives me a goal to practice.
It’s fun to read about pickle ball fun and improved agility. Pickle ball is “on my list” of things to try. Perhaps it will happen - I did get up on a paddle board on our vacation this winter.
I did my “bike commute” today. Since I’m retired, that translates to riding my bike (instead of driving) to the local lake trail for 5k run. It was a glorious day, and I was sorry we had a busy schedule which meant I had to skip the contemplated bike loop around the lake. Instead I headed back home to plant some veggies and flowers. Also since we had gotten decent rainfall (after an April of no rain) I wanted to dig out more dandelions from the lawn. Just love the feeling of getting the whole thing out, roots and all.
Had to smile logging exercise to see that the easy 3 mile round trip bike ride only burned 53 calories. Still like doing it. It saves a tad of gas/emissions and gives me some variety of exercise.
So I just spent the last 2.5 weeks being sick (most likely Covid, went into my lungs and caused pneumonia). I am on the mend and yesterday we got outside and took a 1.5 mile walk in the neighborhood. Planning a longer walk today and hope to run a bit next week. We chose this area specifically for walking/running opportunities so I will not let that go to waste.
It feels good to be back out there.
What an ordeal! Glad you seem to be out on the renewed end now! Outside always waits for us!
I continue to do my thing - walking or riding bike (indoor/outdoor, depending on the weather), and now I’ve got another option with pickleball.
I’m kind of “depressed” because we’re on vacation at the beach for a week starting tomorrow, and the weather forecast includes mostly rain and cold (mostly 60s) and only 1 partial sun shows up for the entire week! Not sure what I’m going to do about exercise there. We are bringing our bikes, and normally do lots of riding, but I don’t like to ride in the rain.
When I’m on vacation, walking to/from breakfast, lunch, and dinner is my kind of exercise. At home I don’t even do that.
I spent 45 minutes swimming in my local pool, I walked to/from my house. It’s very pleasant, I would do more but I had to go home to make a BBQ lunch before my husband’s back from his ride.
When I swim, I often pull myself out of the swimming pool, this is a good way to build upper body strength, I rarely use the steps at the pool to get me out.
@FallGirl just checking in to see how your recovery is going.
@1214mom I saw where you had a bad weather week on vacation. I’m so sorry! Our weather this week has been unusually windy and cool.
Nothing too new and exciting on my end except I completely overdid it on Monday. The workout was a weird burpee pyramid. Instead of 1 push-up you did 8 before bouncing up, then 7,6, down to 1 , then begin again at 6 down to one, then 4, then 2. That was one set. Repeat the process 2x times. I believe that made 210 push-ups in 15min or so. (And then more push sets) I’m still sore! Fortunately, I didn’t have to have to lift upper body until tomorrow and it’s pulling stuff.
Thanks @classicmom. I am finally feeling like normal. I did 2 short runs this week as well as a yoga class and am getting back to normal. It really feels good to be back moving again.
Oh good! I’m so glad! Pneumonia is no picnic
Thanks. It’s been pretty miserable, but the sun did come out some today, and we got a 37 mile bike ride in. IF we could get to the beach, we might consider doing a beach walk this evening. The deck and path from the house to the beach are covered in sand. (As in the big wooden chairs that sit on the deck are totally covered, except one corner where you can see maybe 2-3 inches of the chair).
Tomorrow looks not too bad, and we leave early Saturday morning. My son and his GF left after a couple of days, because weather in the DMV area looked so nice and it was so terrible here.
Oh goodness that sounds awful. Monday was yucky here. Tuesday-Wednesday was nicer but windy, so I am imagine on a beach it’d be awful. We’re back to rain though. Blech. Hope you at least get a couple of nice days before you go
I played pickle ball today but it’s too hot, only did 30 minutes. But I’m not motivated enough to go earlier, I like to walk around my garden with a cup of coffee leisurely.
But I’ve been increasing my stomach exercise, up to 50 a day, I feel my tummy is starting to tighten up.
That’s encouraging. Sit-ups or other stomach exercise?
I’m enjoying my “bike commute” over to our lake trail / 5k runs. (It’s going to be a bummer when it gets hotter and/or I need to go earlier.). I think of my fitness buddies here when I see a pretty view I want to share that is making the exercise more enjoyable. If you look at it full screen, you’ll see the snow covered Rockies.
Mostly sit-ups. Beautiful picture.
Today I went for a quick swim because I didn’t get to do it yesterday. Very pleasant for a hot day.
I went swimming for 45 minutes today, I had the whole place to myself. It’s like I’m at an Italian villa with a big swimming pool, I got carried away, jumped down to the swimming pool without goggles, then I realized I didn’t have my goggles, lol.
But going forward, I’m going to go swimming more often, not avoiding the weekends because of young kids tend to be at the swimming pool in the summer, they were not there, not that early anyway.
I didn’t get a whole lot of exercise when I was on vacation, because of the weather ( I did walk lots of stairs in the house).
Today I rode 24 miles and walked 4.2 or so.
Atypical wildlife sighting on my run through the city this morning. A coyote ran across the road not too far in front of me, and a bit later I almost stepped on a baby rat snake. We have plenty of both in the city, but it’s not typical for me to see them while running.
Today was a 7 mile run, 30 min of stairmonster intervals. Some light leg work, abs, and the yoga progression work. I nailed a pretty impressive handstand, but getting into crow from the handstand may not happen. I either have to tap my toes down in between, or do the handstand against the wall backwards so I can drag them down the hall into crow. 4 months and counting.
