One of my biggest fears is seeing a snake while running/walking. Seeing a snake of any kind freaks me out.
You’re a beast!!! A human one much better than a coyote or snake!
I don’t see them often, but I also run in the dark! We have lots of them around. The hilly neighborhood behind me is ~100 years old with lots of deep, ivy-covered gullies. Lots of copperheads in there. But, it’s pretty rare to see them in the street, though I have seen them before! Snakes are also one reason I’m skittish to run on the riverwalk trail in warm weather. The trail is littered with twigs. Everything looks like a snake, and there are plenty of snakes in there. You typically see them right when the weather warms up, but as the summer goes on, they get scared off by the people.
Just another reason to love winter!
I took it easy today, I played 30 minutes of pickle ball, then I had to rush back and made a few things for lunch, then I had to go to the dentist. Maybe I will work in the garden later, dumping big container of heavy clay/compost has been my work out lately. I dump them out on a regular basis now.
Yesterday I did my “bike commute” to the lake trail and ran 6km. Then many hours of Gardener Squats. More lifting than usual because I was moving round stepping stones between front and back yard.
More gardening today, which included my first (hopefully only) snake sighting of the year. I think it’s only a garter snake, small and eager to get away from me. But it still is creepy.
Snakes like the sun in the spring. I see them on the trail and in the yard out in the open, only in the spring. They seem to hide in the vegetation when the weather warms up. That’s my observation.
That’s in my neck of the woods in the Midwest. Also I’m not worried because snakes here are harmless.
Hey, all, haven’t posted in awhile. After the weight fell on my foot, I spent time finding other things I could do that didn’t hurt but still got my heart rate up. I spent lots of time on my uncomfortable stationary bike and lifted some weights.
I’m inching back to my usual workouts, but I find that my trainer does a lot of things that require putting that foot in uncomfortable positions so instead I’ve been walking three miles every morning with my neighbor and then doing something else. My new thing is Silver Sneaker workouts! lol I love that they are short so a great supplement to walking, and I can up the intensity by using weights or lifting my legs higher/faster/whatever. In a way, I feel old doing them, but I also kind of love them. I had never heard of them before someone on here mentioned them, maybe @Colorado_mom.
Next week is my DXA after four months of intermittent fasting. Can’t wait to see how it goes! I’m still losing weight – down more than 15 pounds – but I’m most curious how much my fat percentage has dropped.
I mostly use Fitness Blender videos (usually just Tank Top Arms and lower body stretch). Which Silver Sneakers video would be a good one to try first ?
I did one yesterday on the 24hour fitness website. I do them off YouTube and not the app, but you can search the app and find them that way. I couldn’t find the one I did on YT. But if you Google, a bunch will come up. They all seem similar to me.
This is the one I did today. It’s not Silver Sneakers; Pete Mo is one of 24’s regular instructors, and this is one he did for seniors. I used weights on the upper body stuff to get my heart rate up and burn more calories. YMMV, but I burned 135 active calories and got my heart rate to 131 in these 26 minutes. I def can see doing this when I’m a little under the weather but want to get some activity in, or like I’m doing now, something to add to the walking.
It’s been gloomy, May gray, but that wouldn’t stop me from swimming, but I’ve been busy with shopping, I like to go very early. So today is the first sunny day and I don’t have to go shopping for food, I went for a 30-35 minutes swim, it’s fantastic, I got to use the jacuzzi by myself afterwards.
Almost paradise, like a song.
Anyway, I’ve been stretching my upper shoulders and this morning I woke up, I was able to move my right middle finger without the sticky finger problem, so glad it’s no longer sticky, working as it should after over 20+ years. Now I have to work on the left shoulder, it’s still painful to stretch it, and there are two fingers still not working like they use to be. But I take one day at a time.
Just checking in-- my big trip is 4 weeks out. I’m feeling a little nervous that we haven’t done a “big” training hike. But I’m still doing the same usual fitness bits of walking everywhere and soccer at least once a week.
Our church re-started Sunday school so I’ve been teaching rather than playing soccer
Remind us where you’re going?
Big exercise day for me. I played pickleball for 90 minutes and rode my bike for 20+ miles.
We are going to the UK for almost 4 weeks. Days 1-6 we are playing tourist (London, Glasgow, Carlisle) and then we embark on 17 day walking trip (16 walking and 1 rest day) on the Coast to Coast Trail. Average daily mileage is just under 12 but that is misleading because some of the shorter days involve significant hills. Fun little fact, the total elevation gain over the trip is just over 29,000 feet
That sounds awesome! Are you doing this with a tour group or on your own?
We will be walking on our own. We worked with a tour company that booked our lodging every night and that will transport our baggage between towns.
With the exception of the day we’ve booked a guide to do a tour Jane Austen sites, we did everything else ourselves.
Oh, I thought the walking trip included carrying or rolling the luggage between towns. That makes it so much easier.
Bummer!
Pickleball is becoming part of my regular rotation for exercise. I played for 120 minutes today. Now that we’re getting better I burn fewer calories, but can also play a little longer.
Will do some bike riding and probably some walking this weekend. We have no exciting plans for the weekend - just seeing some friends.
My husband and I played 30-40 minutes then we left early because my husband forgot to wear sunscreen.
