Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Our normal rides are 25is - 40 or so. We recently did a 63 miler (metric century) on a very windy day. That was tough for us, but generally we can do 50 without any problems.

That is great, 1214mom! I am far from that distance (ha, more like 5-7 miles!) but so cool to see how one can build up to it (hopefully!!).

It’s really fun just to get out on trails, be in nature, see the leaves, etc. So I’m not so worried about the shorter distance, but looking forward to longer.

Movement is better than no movement! You’ll build up over time.
I rode 40 miles yesterday, in the wind, on a gravelly path covered in leaves, and my body hurt afterwards. I feel like I’m getting the “60 slump” - I turned 60 this year, and the last couple of long rides I’ve done have been tough for one reason or another.

Yesterday I did 30 minutes of swimming, then went to my art class, spent 3-4 hours there painting, standing up the whole time. Then I went home and dumped out another compost bin. At night time I was dog tired, this morning I was down to within 3 lbs of my pre vacation weight.
Today, no swimming, I had to go shopping for food. But right now I’m cooking up a storm. I will work the garden again this evening. Maybe I won’t gain weight even without swimming.

I earned my Cheetos and Milk Duds this morning. Ran 12 miles followed by the Crucible. Granted it was the “easiest” one, as it’s “only” 50 reps of each exercise (slider burpees, weighted jumping lunges, Arnold presses, weighted jumping goblet squats, alternating chest press, diamond push-ups, rotating weighted plank to T, and jumping runner hops - all interspersed with 45 sec of an army crawl dragging legs on sliders), but after the run I wasn’t sure my body would do 2 reps of anything, much less 50. I was pleased I got it done.

I will likely shorten the long run when the reps become 75&100, but it felt like awhile since I did a good long run. And the first 75 minutes felt quite good. Got tired after that. But I finished my breakfast of champions and a nap and I’m trying to gather the energy to rake the yard. I may make chocolate chip cookies first

I feel like I’ve worked out just reading that!
Great job!

I was at a conference this week and while I thought it was more, I secured one more state in my running list of states I’ve run at least a mile in - this time Wisconsin.

So I’m at 15 states and 3 countries. :running_woman:t2:

Started keeping track 9 or 10 years ago when I started running.

Well done @ClassicMom98. Today no gardening work for me. I did 30 minutes swim, then went home and did a lot more cooking and baking. Then I went out to get cake decorations for my daughter’s gluten free birthday cake. In the afternoon, I gave my husband a haircut. He has to look decent for passport photos. So after that I’m pooped.
But tonight I will do more floor exercises. I can feel the tightening of my core muscle.

Classicmom98 - you are inspiring! Like that state by state running tally, abasket! DrGoogle123 you are mixing it up, that’s great!

Biked 6 miles and hiked 4 miles (uphill) yesterday! Am trying to find a way to carry lightweight water on a hike that’s not a bad-for-the=enviro plastic bottle, heavy metal thing, nor one of the ‘bladders’ with a tube (those seem hard to keep clean…)

My daughter got this one for a trip we took last spring where we would be on our feet a lot - it worked out well

@abasket - that’s perfect! Apparently silicone is better for the environment than plastic. Love it & will order!

@abasket I would like that for myself!

I’m actually going to buy one too. It’s really handy for traveling. We/she only used it on one trip so I can’t vouch for its longevity but it worked well for us all through NYC! The bottle even with water in it is kind of jiggly - but we had no trouble with leakage.

Come to think about it, I need to buy a swim cap, the swimming pool will have no heat, I need to keep my head warm, or not cold, but right now I’m waiting for the inertia to get up and make a cake. Too lazy at the moment. But I did do 30 minutes of swimming this morning and today I’m at the lowest weight for a while.

@abasket - can you put those silicone water bottles in the dishwasher?

I believe it says you can put the cap in the dishwasher? Some people said for the container they would put a tad of soap, fill with hot water, shake well and then rinse well.

It was my daughters so I didn’t have it post trip

Hydrapak is another brand that is very lightweight, collapsible, leakproof, BPA/PVC-free and - bonus! - can go in the dishwasher’s top rack. Our local running stores and REI carry them but you can also check out Amazon or their website hydrapak.com. They are not cheap but I love that they are lightweight and soft, allowing them to conform to whatever else you have stashed in your fuel belt or backpack.
