Nice job! I work hard to avoid rain (and snowfall) when running. But when it feels like there is a small chance of precip I put the phone in a ziplock.
I carry a Ziploc with me, but I’m still paranoid. I usually double bag it when it pours
Do you carry your phone or have a waist pack of some sort. I use a waist pack that allows my hands to be free and doubles as rain protection - to a degree anyway!
I have a waist pack, but I’m just very paranoid. Supposedly the waist pack is somewhat protected but I sweat through it enough that I had to put my phone in rice to charge it again. And that was in early summer. I started putting it in a bag then even if it was dry until the weather got cooler. Now I keep it between me and the phone as as extra layer.
My check-in again.
Friday was a clean & jerk day, working up to heavy single rep. The HIIT was simple, a 10-min EMOM of 1 heavy clean & jerk and ten 24" box jump overs on the minute.
Today was a SBD (squat, bench & deadlift) day. Two HIIT’s today, since it was Saturday. First HIIT was four 3-minute rounds of a 500 meter row and max pushups. The goal was a 150 pushups, but I only got to 139 pushups.
The 2nd HIIT was another EMOM and consisted of getting a sandbag to my shoulder 3x plus 3 burpees, then 3 sandbag to shoulder and 4 burpees, increasing one burpee each round on the minute. I made it to minute #7.
Yesterday DW and I planned to take a long way to dinner. We ran into someone i used to coach with and ended up having a long chat. We ended up cutting the walk short. Did 3.3 miles there and 1 home.
Today was the last full day of the fall soccer season. I got to walk a couple blocks to one game. Add all the steps wandering fields and i am at 10k steps for the day
Sunday was great-- I played just short of 90 minutes of pickup soccer and then we ended up at my daughter and her husband’s condo to help hang stuff on their walls. Ended the day at a brewery that I had not been too before.
2.5 hours of pickleball this morning.
It was 70 out while we were playing!
Unlike many of you, I am not thankful for this burst of hot weather. My house temp has jumped 10 degrees, and it’s just so muggy and gross. I sleep so much better when it’s cold! This morning, it was 67*, foggy, and the roads were still wet. I did not miss having to put my phone in a baggie just to keep the sweat out of it. That being said, my run wasn’t that terrible and I finished up with 20 min on the bike and abs. Then went home and did a push-pull video. This is week 4 of 6. After this, I WILL pick something easier that isn’t so jumpy, explosive leg intense.
I did get a super nice compliment yesterday at the gym. I was stretching after my stairmonster stint, and a guy asked me if I was a marathon runner. Well, my first one was in 1990, but I haven’t run one in a long time. I said I was getting older now that I’m in my 50s and all. His eyes got big and said he thought I was in my 30s, but that I was just in amazing shape. Yeah, I needed that.
LOL
I can’t get it to play…
Maybe this link will work? It is Holderness family youtube, usually pretty funny stuff - copy/paste to browser, then (if needed) prefix it with https

That’s about how we are
I sort of cheated today. I swapped workouts so that I could get in the Crucible earlier in the week when my energy was higher. First, I ran ~8 miles and then did 20 min on the bike. No abs! Just went home for the crucible. This time it was 75 reps of everything interspersed with 30 seconds of the army crawl thing dragging your feet on the sliders. It’s a beast, but it’s done. Saturday will be blessedly easier.
And my gripe for the day. How long does it take to renovate one 3 stall public bathroom? Our 3rd floor is at 6 months and counting. This means we have 2 floors using ours (~50 women plus the public) with 2 stalls. You’d think after 6 months the custodians would realize that they need to re-stock the toilet paper, soap, and paper towels more often. We are constantly running out of something. Argh!
Ugh on the bathroom.
Good week so far. We needed to go to the grocery store on Monday so we decided to walk-2 miles round trip.
Tuesday we walked to the polls to vote and then i played 90 minutes of soccer-14k of steps.
Yesterday was DW’s birthday and our pre-dinner and pre-church meeting walk turned into a walk to dinner and skipping the meeting. Total round distance was just over 4 miles.
Today is a cleaning lady day so we are starting the day with a 2 mile round trip walk to get a bagel
After 3 days of rain, I finally made to the pickle ball court today and played about 30-40 minutes.
Another day where my walking was entirely food related
A lunchtime, my BFF and I walked to a local taco place (round trip 1.6 miles). We have a standing bi-weekly lunch date that goes back to about 2013. We had worked in the same group together for a decade and became friends. When we stopped working together (he moved to another part of the agency), we realized that we missed chatting so we started our lunch dates.
During COVID, it became a phone call.
He retired at the start of October so he drives to my neighborhood and we go out.
For dinner, we walked to a neighborhood seafood place (round trip of 2.7 miles-- 1.3 there and since we took a slightly different way home, it was 1.4)
I support “walk for food”.
And what a great tradition you have with your friend.
Gotta report the bad with the good. Oof my long run was rough. I wanted it to be good, but my body just said nope. I wound up walking some the last few miles and cut the run a mile or so short. Still around 12. But blah. It happens.
On a different note. Proud of younger S. He entered a squat contest at school. He doesn’t train like a power lifter, but was curious how much he could squat as he never does fewer than 6 reps. Wound up with a little over 2x his body weight and said he thought he could have done more. No wraps/sleeves.
