Another walk to food- 3.7 miles round trip. Place tonight was cool local sandwich/pizza place. They have ~40 different sandwiches and a nice beer list.
Wouldn’t be real if there were some days that didn’t go as planned!
Very cool about your son!
I assume no belt? 2x BW is awesome, especially without training.
Yesterday, I spotted one of the competitive powerlifters at the gym on his PR squat attempt. He weighs 218 lbs and he successfully squatted 650 lbs. He was very happy and even called his coach, who lives on the East Coast. I’ve also seen him deadlift 750 lbs, which he has beaten since.
Also yesterday, I front squatted to a single heavy, which was just shy of my PR. The HIIT was:
100 Calorie Row
75 Thrusters
50 Pull-ups
75 Wall Balls
100 Calorie Row
The goal was 25-30 minutes with a weighted vest, which I found to be a joke, just looking at it beforehand. Let’s just say, I was a bit off that time.
Today I benched to a heavy triple, a 4x6 of back squats up to 80%. The HIIT was three 5-min AMRAP’s of 20 cal on the assault bike, 21-15-9 on deadlifts, along with burpees over the bar, GHD sit-ups and pushups.
And I finished up with a 3x10 of glute ham raises and and a 3x2 of rope climbs.
I “ran” across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge today. I ran for 5 miles, and then once we were off the bridge I walked parts of the last 1.25. I haven’t run that far for a couple of decades, and only did it because I knew my husband really wanted to run but had agreed to walk with me. I did tell him to go ahead and run the last bit without me.
Now I’m not sure I’ll be fit to play pickleball tomorrow, but we shall see.
Another good day. I played soccer this AM. We were only 4v4 so a ton of steps.
I coached my last game of the year with my 1st graders.
And concluding the theme-- I walked 2 miles round trip to dinner.
Final step count for the day 16.5K steps
We were away visiting my D20 at school for the weekend, lots of city walking. Her neighborhood (Mission Hill) lives up to its name and her apartment is at the top of the steepest paved street I’ve ever seen outside of San Francisco. Each outing culminated in that climb and the cherry on the top was the second floor walk up to her apartment . My quads are feeling it. Averaged 16k steps each day we were there, though.
Played 2+ hours of pickleball today. After yesterday I started out a little rough (legs tired/sore), but played pretty well.
I meant to say how cool that you did that race! I would have liked to do something like that in the day. I’m impressed you felt well enough to do pickleball today!
I played 30 minutes of pickle ball today, this week I should be able to play everyday. I don’t have to go shopping for food in the early morning. But my husband and I been working in the garden, redoing the path to improve drainage for the peonies, so in that sense we have been exercising. We did manage to lose all of vacation weight, well almost, but very close. I was really surprised when I stepped in the scale this morning. This week I will be eating mostly soup and lots of vegetables. I’m preparing to feast to next week, that’s the reason.
Tomorrow I go for my DXA scan. They’ve upgraded the machine so I’m supposed to get better/different/more in-depth? info. Can’t wait. I haven’t lost much more weight since my last one. Always just interesting to see the changes. I don’t expect a lot this time, though, hopefully, less fat in my torso.
I had mine a couple of weeks ago. One score did improve …but the other did not. Starting to revisit the idea of osteo drugs again (well for the first time because I have never agreed to take them)…
Maybe I’m confused…what kind of results are you getting from your dexa scan re: weight/fat?? I am looking only for bone density results.
Bone density overall and then lean and fat percentages by areas of the body – legs, arms, upper and lower torso and overall trunk. Also amount of visceral adipose tissue and how it all compares to the thousands and thousands of people who have had these scans. Then the trainer sits down with you and talks about goals and what calorie intake and/or how much lean mass you’d need to add to hit the goals.
I found this online. If you go to page 8 here, this is kind of like the report I get, only mine is more detailed. My report is four pages long and has, for instance, my original scan and body fat %s plus others throughout the years alongside the current scan and numbers so I can chart my progress. I love it as I can really see how changes I made in diet and/or exercise show up. For instance, when I made a conscious effort to eat more protein I really did gain muscle. And when I cut out processed foods I lost more fat in my trunk.
Bone density is very good to know, but visceral fat is the key for me.
As mentioned elseshere on this site, I was disappointed with my last DEXA. I lost a little weight, purposely, and my body fat % decreased and I finally hit my fat % goal. BUT, I lost a small amount of muscle with it.
I’ve already made a couple of “adjustments” to my exercise program, but I won’t be doing another DEXA scan for about year or so.
I haven’t posted here in awhile. Right now I am both sick (Covid and flu negative, doctor thinks another virus) and injured (had to reschedule visit to orthopedic doctor due to virus, but looked at the MRI results on line and my knee shows a small tear in the meniscus as well as a bit of arthritis).
This is the latest in a series of unfortunate body events (Covid, pneumonia, fall/faceplant, cold) that have happened since mid April.
I am trying to keep positive, It was just over a year ago that I ran my first marathon and then PR’d my 5K on Thanksgiving. I kept going and ran the NYC Half in March. But to put it in perspective, I started running in April 2016 at age 59 and this is the first time I have had a real injury and I haven’t been sick much until now. I am thinking of this as just a phase and that with rest I will be able to be back. Just have to be patient and appreciate how lucky I have been until now.
At this point I am hoping to start running again in a few weeks (after my appointment) and due to the cold winters/snow/ice here will likely start on the treadmill. If all goes as planned I will sign up for some shorter (5K and 10K) races in the spring. I really just like to run rather than race, but having a race goal keeps me motivated. I will also keep my time goals modest and continue with walking and yoga.
Last night the weather here was kind of nasty-- roughly 40 with heavy rain. I still played 90 minutes of soccer. I layered up so I wasn’t cold but I was soaked to bone when I was done
@jmnva06 The weather yesterday was NASTY! 90 minutes of soccer does not sound fun! You are tough!
@FallGirl I’m so sorry you’ve been in a rut of yuck. I was wondering what the MRI showed, but I guess you won’t know more about where to go from here until you get better. It WILL get better! Hopefully soon!
More of the same for me. Ran to the gym, 25 min bike/abs/arm balance work, run home and then the video was Endurance and Agility, or something equally heinous sounding after leg day yesterday. The roads were still wet. I just struggle more with wet roads than I remember. I don’t know if it’s the way I run now, my shoes, or the pavement. I do know that streets/parking lots that have been sealcoated are much worse than some of the others. But I’m sure some of it is probably me too.
I hope you get better soon.
Yesterday, I fell on my knees in my art class, there was a puddle of water from the ceiling that was not cleaned up. Needless to say I was in pain, but my knees are slowly getting better, bruise but not crack. But that means no exercise for a few days.
Ouch, that sounds painful! I guess it could have been worse!!!
Really missing the mild October/early November weather we had. While I do 3 miles of something before work each morning I usually come home from work and do a couple mile walk or run too. But with this cold weather AND early dark, I’m definitely not as motivated - those PJ’s get put on pretty quick!
