I need to check to see whether I can track it. I assume my Apple watch has some feature that allows it.
On my iPhone (paired with Apple Watch) I went to:
Fitness app (the one with the three Apple Watch rings)
Workouts
On Workouts screen, click “all workouts” in green in upper right of phone - choose your activities (walk, run, hike - which ever ones you click before exercising) and then you will get a monthly summary of that activity - it lists each individual activity AND there is a monthly summary when you scroll.
As best as I can figure (using method above), I logged 1881 miles of run, purposeful walks, exercise videos which I record movement mileage),hiking and grass cutting (lol) which I record as “other” (we have a large yard and it takes a good hour to cut - it’s good exercise!!!).
That is an average of 5.15 miles per day of scheduled and recorded exercise (so doesn’t count of course just steps/miles walking within my day.)
I almost without fail do 3 miles of something before work on a daily basis so I figured with that and my after work or longer weekend activities that I would be in the 5 mile range.
So cool to see! Great job - your body thanks you!
Is there a concerted effort to do stairs? You seem to have a lot of stair flights.
Stairs is simply Fitbit’s way of measuring change in elevation (one flight= roughly 10 feet). But it isn’t exact. For example, on Thursday, I got credited with 133 flights and guidebooks says the elevation gain is 1,075 feet. But my walk to/from our Mexican joint is only 1 mile with a couple of small hills and sometimes I get credit for 25ish flights
I checked the Health app on my iphone. The step count would include walking (including all errands and most steps around le ayard), hiking and also running. It omits exercise videos (iphone on dresser), but mostly I do arms and stretching video routines. The grand total is not so impressive, but much better than if I had not made an effort to “keep moving”. Editing to say I did have a some biking not tracked.
July was our 23-day (5000+ miles) road trip, and my running haitus (plantar fascitis) was late-Sept thru early Nov….darn, tis my favorite running season when weather is lovely and not many garden chores.
Ahh, I live in a very flat area of the Midwest so elevation is rarely a consideration!
I always say, “it’s your own game to play” - the fitness game. If you have relative personal satisfaction with where you are at , you are winning!
Posting this only as an example of fitness being “your game to play” …
Just out of curiosity I looked up my daily step counts. I may not run long races/distances, enter competitions, set the fitness world on fire, I strive for consistency. The daily routine, the closing rings streak, the more than one time a day to get moving. Looking at this graph I think I have achieved that consistency! Each month lining up so very similarly!
That’s awesome! When I used a pocket pedometer for a few years, there was only ONE day that I had 17K steps…. and that was a shore excursion cruise day, touring Florence (where buses are not allowed into inner city, lots of walking).
Hi all - I spent a lot of time on one of the precursor threads to this one for several years, then drifted away from CC when my youngest went away to college in 2018 & some other life stuff happened.
I’m so happy to still see a lot of familiar names here! I’m still running, but wow has it been a struggle for the past few years. Injuries, lack of motivation, some medical stuff, anxiety & depression following Covid isolation - you name it.
Anyway, I’m happy to be back & maybe this thread will help me as I claw my way back to the shape (physical and mental) I’d like to be in.
Happy New Year to all!
I remember your name! Welcome back!
Welcome back;) Within this group…. methinks many have dealt with some or all of the mentioned challenges,
Welcome back @GertrudeMcFuzz. I hope life is better for you in 2023.
We went to Nashville for the bowl game, and wound up driving both ways, bc we were afraid SW airlines wouldn’t come through, and our tickets to game were quite expensive/we didn’t want to miss it.
I adjusted my Apple Watch movement ring back a little, but I didn’t need to - I closed all 3 rings with normal 500 for movement every day. Today we drove home, but I rode my spin bike to get rings closed.
Hey, @GertrudeMcFuzz I remember you.
This morning, I had access to a treadmill so I ran a little. I miss it so much. Trying to decide whether I want to try again at 60 years old.
Try! - on your own terms. For fun. For enjoyment of outdoors in a different way. Maybe it’s just short distances. Maybe REALLLY short distances! It’s your game to play.
Yes - give it a go! I’m in a running club that has many members in their 70s, so at 60 you’d just be in the middle of the pack. (There are members of all ages, but in the slower pace groups we are all at least 40s, mostly 50s & 60s. And we have the most fun - the slower you go, the more you can chat!)
Yes - you should give “it” a go, whatever “it” inspires you/you’ll keep doing on a regular basis.
It’s important to keep moving, so you CAN keep moving.
It doesn’t have to be running - I almost never run, but I often walk 4 miles, pretty quickly, or slowly, depending on if I’m with someone, and what their pace is.
